This is the talk archive for January 2006 for me, ➨ REDVERS. If you post here, I won't see it and I won't reply. So don't post here. It saves everyone time. You can post here instead and that will make more sense. Thanks ➨ REDVERS 11:57, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Barnstar

edit

I am having trouble telling who it was who did the rewrite of the RFC on Kelly Martin on Deleting stuff without consensus. If it was you, you deserve a Superhero Editor Barnstar for translating the anger and frustration into the different cogent view points. But perhaps after userboxes and templates are resolved, barnstars could also become a controversy, unless I am misunderstanding some of the nuances. I would like your vote

edit

Hello, I linked to your page because I saw you voted in favor of keeping the body part slang articles. I think the deletion of those articles was a poor decision. I recently authored an article entitled Taint and it is up for deletion. I feel that certain people feel that unfamiliarity with a term invalidates the term. If you could find the time I would greatly appreciate you reading the article and then voicing your opinion.--Cenestrad 06:00, 6 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

What can I say? I'm really astonished by the barnstar I received from you. I must admit it came in the right moment, the very day I almost decided to quit wikipedia. Thanks, it's really a comforting thought to know that even the minor expansions do not come unnoticed. Halibutt 01:06, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esperanza

edit

Thank you for the welcome to Esperanza, Redvers! It seems almost impossible to break into the community around here, so I really appreciate your post. Can I ask what the status of Esperanza is? It seems a little dormant; I've posted a few things and not seen any activity on the pages... --Aaron 17:17, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Eurotunnel

edit

When I said "less detailed" in the Channel Tunnel article, I meant to say "less detailed than the picture of the UK terminal". So, there was no picture of the French terminal yet.

I know I made a mistake with my first edit: I went to Google Maps for the picture of the UK terminal, navigated to the French terminal, and copied the URL. However, the URL does not change when you navigate on google maps, so the two links where identical. I noticed this immediately and changed my first edit.

So both your remarks are not valid anymore... I didn't revert your changes yet, because I want you to see that this is correct. You can dan revert your changes yourself. Thanks for reviewing my changes though. Michaël 22:40, 16 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

New User!

edit

Hi,

I've seen that you are 'happy to help new users'!

As a new user of Wikipedia, i would like to know:

  1. ) Where you get your user bars from saying: 'I Use Firefox', 'Happy to help New Users' etc... available on your homepage.
  2. ) What Barnstar Awards are, and where you can award/receive them and why?
  3. ) What Esperanza is and other groups, how/when/why should i join etc...
  4. ) How you can make people alert as to what languages you read/write in etc...

Thanks very much, in advance, for your help...

Thanks for your reply!

edit

Thanks for your reply to me, your info is grately appreciated!

Just one quick question: How do people tell how many articles i have edited, or how long i've been signed up? Also, where can i get to the page where i can sign up for different groups?

Thanks, again, for all your help!

One more thing...

edit

Hi Redvers (again),

Sorry to keep bothering you! When I upload an image from the internet to Wikipedia, well, is this allowed? If 'Yes', what copyright 'template' do i need to assign to the image.

Secondly, if i create the image myself, what copyright 'templates' do i need to assign?

I'm really referring to the content on this page.

Lastly, can i just confirm: can I award Barnstar Prizes quite freely, or do they have to be for a very, very good reason?

Cheers, and thanks for all your help:

Kindly Explain Yourself

edit

Hi there. Might I ask why you are not an admin? Would you like to be one? Would you like me to nominate you, or would you rather somebody else did? Cheers Banez 17:26, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Great, you seem to be ready, you have done much for wikipedia. I think you could do with the mop and deserve it. How does Monday the 6th of Feb sound to you? I'm planning to make another nom then so I'd like to have them on the same day. Or would you rather I did it another time? Cheers Banez 20:26, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

My first (and most) significant edit...

edit

Hi redvers,

Just wondering whether you could check the article i've added to, and thus, getting rid of it's Stub Status?

It's the article on denotation.

Cheers,

Tom 18:16, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks!

edit

Thanks for proof reading the article on denotation and i can see where you've edited the Wiki Markup, i realise the importance of this: to create a standardised markup which people are familiar with.

Once again, thanks very much!

Thanks for answering Tom's questions about Wikipedia. He asked me the same questions the other day. --LBMixPro<Speak|on|it!> 21:10, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I know how good it feels to say something completely different than "Please quit, I'll block you!". But this guy looks like a good contriuter. He's interested in the community, even before he got to work. Hopefully he'll make is way to Wikipedia:Esperanza when it's his time. --LBMixPro<Speak|on|it!> 04:42, 25 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esperanza!

edit

Hi Redvers,

I've been doing some long research and reading into Esperanza, the community you are a member of that help fellow wikipedians, i was wondering (in a few months, of course) how it would be possible to join... as i think helping people is a major key to the success of Wikipedia. I'v noticed the entry requirement need 150 edits, however, i will not rush any article editing just to get into Esperanza, i wish to wait until my articles are all of a great degree of accuracy.

I would like to know the purpose of Election with Esperanza, and also, how a user can contact a member of Esperanza in privacy?

Thanks, once more, for your time, and i eagerly await a reply.

Tom

For Redvers!

Hey, Redvers, and thanks for the Barnstar! It's not too late to do a dual-nom for Banes. :) And I'll stick with using my powers for good and not evil; otherwise, I wouldn't be able to support your upcoming RfA. ;) Cheers, Sango123 (talk) 00:37, 25 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please do implement it! The colors of your version are so much lovelier, and I'm honored that you decided to base it off my layout. :) Regards, Sango123 (talk) 20:15, 26 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hey, did this rhyme? ;) Your new user page looks so nice, although I'd advise not to view it using Internet Explorer. :) Cheers, Sango123 (talk) 20:45, 26 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

New Article

edit

Hi redvers,

I'm wanting to create a range of new articles about the poems in the GCSE English Language Anthology, to give GCSE students advice/information into analysing the poetry- i do not know, however, what category to place the poetry in?

Because i'm creating a range of article would you advise creating a new sub-category within 'Poetry' called 'GCSE Anthology Poetry'?

If so, how can this be done?

Thanks! Tom

Hey there! I noticed that you said on your User Page that you are interested in British TV. I was wondering if you were interested in either WikiProject British TV channels or WikiProject British TV shows which aim to co-ordinate articles on British TV. An Esperanzial note

edit

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey there....

Congratulations, Redvers/Archive02! Your user page has been nominated for the Esperanza User Page Award! Five judges will look over your user page and award it 1-10 points in four categories:

  • Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
  • Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
  • Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
  • General niceness: at the judges' discretion

But first, you must be chosen as a finalist. If your user page is chosen as one of the five finalists, you'll have the chance to win an award created just for having a great user page!

More information can be found on this page.
