Dwight Eisenhower edit

Ryan, you're off to a good start on your first article, but you need to know that you cannot use other Wikipedia articles as the sole sources for your own article. Wikipedia is not "self-referencing." In other words, the Dwight Eisenhower article is not a valid source for this article. You need to use references from other reliable sources. The welcome message above has some good links you might want to check out on writing Wikipedia articles. If you need help, put a {{helpme}} tag on your article or talk page, and an editor will respond in fairly short order. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:01, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Dwight Eisenhower's Rolex Watch edit

The article Dwight Eisenhower's Rolex Watch has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable watch.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ttonyb (talk) 19:57, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

A concern edit

It appears that you are posting items which are a part of the Raleigh Amyx collection, with the only references in these articles being to his web site. Seeing as how Me. Amyx sells some of these items on eBay, and apparently this collection is part of his business, there is a concern that these Wikipedia articles may be used to promote Mr. Amyx's interests. Please be advised that Wikipedia prohibits promotion of any kind, as set for on this page. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 17:54, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

There was once a time when Mr. Amyx's collection was too small to merit notability or notoriety, but that has changed since the addition of, among others, the White House China and the Olympic Memorabilia, both of which now are recognized as being one of the finest and most valuable in the world (see the Raleigh DeGeer Amyx wikipedia page). I should mention that prior to the decision to create wikipedia articles, it was asked of all interested parties which items he has in his collection that are of great historical significance, particularly from the world of collecting AS a historical practice and a form of preservation, NOT AS a form of advertising, marketing, or selling. Were I sly and subtle enough, I'm sure I could create some promotional pages meant merely to raise the visibility of his items for selling purposes. But the reality is that there are a few items of great historical significance, primarily from a collector's perspective (particularly one of americana), a few of which are already attested to in third-party sources outside of wikipedia or Mr. Amyx's website. The primary trouble I'm having is with synthesizing and contextualizing the content into a complete whole, and then with the formatting and layout of the page. There are also some copyrighted photos that are critical in exhibiting the items, and I want to make sure I follow wikipedia's guidelines on using copyrighted photos that I have been given permission to use on the pages I create. OTRS edit

User:Ttonyb1 tagged your images with the wrong tag so I have corrected the confusion and also replaced his warnings above with the appropriate one. First off, you should let your files be deleted and reupload your images at Wikicommons. This has the advantage of allowing your images to be viewed on all Wikimedia projects.

You can either ask that the American Heritage webmaster place a note on each image saying that the image is licensed as CC By-SA 3.0 or you can ask for permission from the using the process at Commons:OTRS. If you already have email permission that meets the rigorous requirements at OTRS you can just mail it in to an OTRS volunteer.

Hopefully that answers your question. Marcus Qwertyus 21:44, 8 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Raleigh DeGeer Amyx. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. --DAJF (talk) 02:01, 22 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
