Paraphrasing issues

edit

This edit was flagged as problematic by an automated plagiarism detection tool. While part of the reason it tagged your edit was your lengthy quotes, there is also problems with some of the wording outside the quotes. For example, you wrote

performance in the areas of “materials source reduction, reusable packaging, use of recycled content, use of recyclable packaging, and actions taken to promote materials recycling.

The source says

We evaluated corporate performance in the areas of materials source reduction, reusable packaging, use of recycled content, use of recyclable packaging, and actions taken to promote materials recycling

The words I highlighted were outside of the quotes, but they are the precise words used by the source. You can't do that.

You also wrote

With four levels of performance: Best Practices, Better Practices, Needs Improvement, and Poor, no brands earned the level of Best Practices

This was not a quote (nor is it a complete sentence). The original source says

On the basis of information provided by companies and publicly available data, we established four levels of performance: Best Practices, Better Practices, Needs Improvement, and Poor (see Figure 6).

You used their precise wording without putting it in quotes.

You also wrote:

In 2013, McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Brands publicly pledged to transition out of their use of foam hot beverage cups. McDonald’s has replaced foam with paper cups, but Dunkin’ has not initiated transition.

The original source says

After engagement with As You Sow, McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Brands pledged publicly in 2013 to phase out the use of foam hot beverage cups. McDonald’s has started to replace foam with paper cups; Dunkin’ is still determining what material it will use as a replacement and will not start its transition for another one to two years.

Since you preserved the structure of the sentence in the course, and much of the actual wording, this is an example of close paraphrasing.
