{{helpme}} Will anyone go over the coding in the template and let me know where the error is occuring, because I've searched through it 4 times without finding it. I did it once all compacted (not separated out), but it still didn't work, so now I'm confused! Can anyone help out, please? --Ajl772 (talk) 01:09, 20 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

for info on #vardefine see http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:VariablesExtension
I've been told this is not installed here. Is it possible to get it installed?
thanks Ajl772 (talk) 02:11, 20 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I guess you mean the template that this is the talk page of, i.e. User:Ajl772/link-title. I don't know the answers to your questions, but it might help if you were to explain what the template is supposed to do, preferably perhaps by adding the explanation to the template as documentation. If I knew what you were trying to do, I might (or might not) be able to figure out a way to do it. --Coppertwig (talk) 13:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I need more information about what you're trying to do. In the code for your template, I see several sections of code. It's not clear to me which ones are supposed to maybe try to work and which ones are commented out and just there for documentation or something. You seem to be doing a lot of passing of values from one variable to another, and I don't see the reason why you're doing that.
Here, I've used another page as a template and, for the second link, I've built up the link using variable values. I guess that's the kind of thing you want to do. It works for me.
Are you trying to have predefined tooltop text for a bunch of links so that the user just has to give the url and the tooltip text will be assigned automatically by the template? Is that the part that's not working? What are you able to get working? --Coppertwig (talk) 19:25, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
