Please don’t bite me, I’m a newbie!

I’m a university student in a Wikipedia Education class, and I’m currently learning how to contribute to Wikipedia.
I am approaching my subject in good faith.

independent sourcing edit

Hi,

Just a heads up about this section. It appears to be one of your students? In sum: They've done a lot of work on the page and there's nothing too egregious in the article. The main reason I'm leaving a message for you is that the main problem with the article might be an issue that could be addressed class-wide. Namely, that Wikipedia wants independent sourcing in almost all cases (there are exceptions). We generally don't consider articles which rely on official sites, press releases, interviews with the subject, etc. to be compatible with neutral point of view, because subjects cannot be presumed to be neutral sources about themselves. Even if worded in a way that's neutral, extensive material sourced this way winds up creating a problem of WP:WEIGHT and gives it a promotional tone. FYI. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 17:59, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting me know. I'll address it with the student and keep it in mind for the future. I appreciate the helpful comment! R stasey (talk) 01:04, 3 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
