Proposal Pages: Women in the Black Panther Party This page needs some work. It is at risk of being merged in to the larger Black Panther Party page and this would not benefit the women who worked in the organization. We talked about intersectional invisibility and the merging of these pages would contribute to the ignorance of the women in the movement because I doubt information will be added about the women once the pages are merged. If I get chosen to edit this page and it is merged, I will take on editing the BBP page, but only the section about the women. There is only one woman listed in the whole article and they don’t even include Angela Davis who was forced to choose a side and she went with the NAACP.
Lynn Wells She was a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) during the 60s. She needs a biography that goes into depth about her involvement in human and minority rights activism. It is important when someone reads a page about an activist that the content tells about why the activist is so passionate about what they believe in and I am interested to learn and share her story.
Black Association for Nationalism Through Unity This branch of the Black Panther Party was located in Omaha, Nebraska. There is not a lot of information available on this page. I am interested in editing this page to learn about the actions of Black people in a place you don’t hear very often for having a large Black population. I’m eager to find links to other pages about other organizations and people that are not yet linked.
I, too, find this article very interesting. I like the fact that it's coming from the youth of that era because we never get that perspective. I also believe that it is essential for people to know how BANTU impacted the black community. Therefore, it should be explained more in depth.Tearani (talk) 16:38, 24 February 2017 (UTC)Tearani
I think the article about women in the Black Panther Party would be interesting because you don't hear or think about women when it comes to mentioning Black Panther Party. It is a male dominated outlook, so to inform people otherwise would be a great idea. KyraWilson (talk) 16:51, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
