Contributor copyright investigations edit
I am no expert on copyright or even WP policy, apart from the common-sense understanding that one should not steal other people's property, tangible or intangible.
I think we need to give Forest a few days to respond. As a minimum, he needs to apologise for his misunderstanding/error of judgement/wp:COI /whatever and say whether or not this was the only place he has done it. wp:Contributor copyright investigations normally requires multiple examples of copyright theft for action to be taken but if Forest refuses to engage or apologise, that would seem to me to be reasonable grounds for a report. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 18:50, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
- @John Maynard Friedman: Thank you for your message. I totally agree with you: at this moment we still have to consider the probability of him bringing his own work to Wikipedia. But I am now pessimistic about his communication skills, given the fact that he repeats the same nonsense argument both on his talk and the article talk pages. What he is expected to do is crystal-clear, but he seems to intentionally ignore and keeps editing other articles. In the next several days, I will refrain from posting another message on the article talk page in order to give him enough leeway for self-reflection and avoid hostile conversations. The waiting period might be extended if he completely stop editing during Xmas holidays. I wish I could investigate other samples myself, but my hands are full with another clean-up project with the Japanese Wikipedia... --ProfessorPine (talk) 23:32, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, you said that the material had been translated into Japanese and uploaded, so it is going to be really difficult to disentangle who did what when and from what source. I don't envy you your task: I had to do something similar where I had to extract the contributions of a banned editor and I described it at the time as surgery with a chain-saw not a scalpel. If he really is a genuine academic author, the folly of what he has done will get through so a week to reflect may bring him to his senses. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 23:46, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

- Thanks to your liaison with Diannaa, the problematic article was immediately cleaned out. I also learned from her talk page that CCI requires five cases to file a report. So far, I checked Life on Titan and DNA supercoil from Rowan Forest's edit portfolio but nothing suspicious was found. Now I am investigating Life on Mars.
