CHIC edit

Hey, thanks for your contribution to this article. With regards to whether the band is disco or another kind...I haven't the first clue. I just copied the first sentence of the article, essentially. Thanks for changing it! JHMM13 (T | C)     04:23, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pictures edit

Thanks for your many contributions to the CHIC articles; obviously you are someone who knows this history well. One thing -- we must be very careful at Wikipedia about using copyrighted pictures, because we allow others to copy and use our material as well, and we are a non-profit foundation that cannot afford to be sued for violating people's copyrights. The pictures you uploaded for Tony Thompson are not ones we can legitimately use in Wikipedia unless the photographer has explicitly agreed in writing to license them under a GFDL or Creative Commons license (see image copyright tags -- just because they're in a tour program doesn't make them "promotional photos", unfortunately. Usually our best bet for usable celebrity photos is something that was included in a press kit -- the kind bands send out to newspapers and deejays and such when a new album is released. If you can track down some of those, please upload them, and include the photographer's name and the date of the press kit (if available). I'm sorry, but the ones that you have already uploaded may eventually need to be deleted; our image use policy is tricky to master, but it's been carefully worked out to help us put out the best possible free encyclopedia that we can, and I thank you for your help with that goal. — Catherine\talk 01:59, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pocat -- I can't edit the text of your edit summary, but I did delete your edit altogether so it no longer shows up in the article history or your contributions. You'll need to re-add the information while logged in. Have fun! — Catherine\talk 03:11, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Changing CHIC to Chic? edit

Have you read the guidelines (Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks) & Wikipedia:Manual of Style (capital letters)#All caps) I gave in my edit summaries regarding the edits you are referring to? Comparisons with ABBA and MCI are invalid, as these are acronyms, which are fully capitalized in standard English. Please refrain from engaging in an edit war over this. The guidelines are clear there are numerous precedents for band names which have been subjected to them (i.e. Kiss and Matchbox Twenty) and - forgive me for pointing that out - your username does suggest a certain bias towards the subject at hand, which might lead to WP:NPOV related concerns. Have a nice day. - Cyrus XIII 11:55, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

All the "authority" I need to perform these edits is right there within the guideline pages I previously linked for you (and maybe WP:BOLD).
Quoting WP:MOS-TM:
Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment
Quoting Wikipedia guidelines in general:
The consensus of many editors formed the conventions described here, and Wikipedia articles should heed these guidelines.
Also, since Wikipedia is a user edited encyclopedia, it is only natural that inconsistencies with policies and guideline will arise and in some cases persist for a lengthy period of time - all the more reason to fix them, when spotted. Regarding your website, while linking to your own site is probably not a very good idea to begin with, it should at least be done in a discrete way, certainly below official sites (in this case of former band members) and more neutral than "CHICtribute.com: With news, discography, video, audio, sampling list, history, interviews, reviews, gallery, lyrics, and more!". See WP:NOT#SOAPBOX, WP:EL and again WP:NPOV. - Cyrus XIII 13:31, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think Cyrus is correct in this case, Pocat. I hadn't read that Manual of Style guideline when you first changed it to CHIC, or I'd have said something then, but it sounds like a sensible guideline. You may certainly mention the issue in the article: perhaps the first line could read "Chic (often capitalized as CHIC) is...." Best wishes — Catherine\talk 18:23, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blocked for WP:3RR violation at Chic (band) edit

You have been blocked for 24 hours;
Greetings, Pocat-chictribute.com; unfortunately, your latest contributions to the encyclopedia have been harmful to Wikipedia, and you have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours. The reason behind this is: edit warring at Chic (band), constituting a violation of WP:3RR. Hopefully when you return your attitude to the encylopedia will have improved, and you will be prepared to contribute contructively.

If you feel this block is not justified, you may: (1) email me by clicking here, or otherwise at anthony.cfc@gmail.com; (2) add the text {{unblock|reason}} to your talk page, which you can still edit.

Blocks at Wikipedia are not a punishment - rather, they are a period to reflect, an opportunity to show understanding and and ability to act responsibly, and a period of time to let the matter pass and be learned from. Wikipedians, Administrators and the Community have a real desire for everyone who is capable of acting responsibly to be able to enjoy editing; please bear this in mind for the duration of your block.

Regards,
Anthony 12:59, 13 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Chic discography edit

Please refer to Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria #8, which specifically states that fair-use images may not be used in lists or galleries. Additionally, Wikipedia:Non-free content#Images outlines that album covers must be the subject of critical commentary in order to be included in articles. This commentary may appear in the articles about each album, but it doesn't appear in a "List of" format. (ESkog)(Talk) 14:32, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Chic79.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Chic79.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 10:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:TonyThompson-CHIC79small.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:TonyThompson-CHIC79small.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 19:45, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:TonyThompson1980.jpg edit

I have tagged Image:TonyThompson1980.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Rettetast 19:45, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:SheilaKOTW80lp.gif edit

I have tagged Image:SheilaKOTW80lp.gif as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. If this image is being used as a link target instead of displayed inline, please add {{not orphan}} to the image description page to prevent it being accidentally marked as orphaned again. Image source problem with Image:Chic92bsmall.jpg edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Chic92bsmall.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:06, 6 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 12:06, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Mathislp81nocover.gif edit

The file File:Mathislp81nocover.gif has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 9 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
