Dendrobium images edit

Hello Ping an Chang,

Thank you for your work, expecially adding images to the Dendrobium article. There are now sufficient images in the gallery. Please add any others to the Dendrobium category in Commons. Further images would not add any meaning to the article. (WP:IG) Gderrin (talk) 09:51, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Gderrin: Hello! Thank you for your suggestion. The pictures uploaded in the Dendrobium category in the past few days are mainly for an orchid show in Taiwan: Category:2022 Taichung Lecheng Temple National Orchid Show. Thank you very much for your contribution to Wikipedia. (Sorry for my bad English! I don't understand digital editing either. I'm an elderly person) Ping an Chang (talk) 11:12, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
The best place for images for an orchid show is here. (Please click on the link.) Editing in Commons is the same as editing Wikipedia. Good luck for the orchid show. Gderrin (talk) 11:18, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot for the guidance! and good luck for your research work! Ping an Chang (talk) 00:46, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Ping an Chang! Your additions to Dennstaedtia have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 13:34, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Diannaa: Hello! Thanks a lot for your message! I have contacted the contributor who removed my additions. I did have an editorial oversight and will re-upload when I have time recently. Thank you again! Best regards. Ping an Chang (talk) 03:09, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ping an Chang Can you please elaborate on what you mean when you say you had an "editorial oversight". The material you placed at Dennstaedtia (again) is a very close paraphrase of the texts from the source reference, and which Diannaa has already removed once. please take time to read through wp:copyvio--Kevmin § 15:35, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Kevmin for giving me the opportunity to explain what I mean by "editorial oversight" (about my first additions): my additions are "citations", but I totally forgot that I must put the quotes (I taught at the university's liberal arts school many years ago, I had also written papers for many years), and I do not understand digital editing at all, and in Dennstaedtia this page only has "References" and no "Citations" mark, so I specifically explain the citations source below my additions. It should be my English ability and my digital editing ability that caused this misunderstanding.
Regarding my second additions"Dennstaedtia (again)", it is still "Citations", since you kindly informed me that my additions are "not prose for general audiance", I have removed the less prose part, I added a little more basic knowledge (from another source in chinese: http://www.iplant.cn/info/Dennstaedtia?t=z, published by Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae. My first source is http://www.iplant.cn/info/Dennstaedtia?t=foc, published by Flora of China. Although the latter is considered a "translated version" of the former, it is not exactly the same in content, I will explain with my second additions. I use primarily Flora of China because it is written in English and can be read easily by a speaker of english). For convenience, I had to use two different "citations" sources in one sentence, such as 'medium-sized', 'without scales' , 'longitudinal' and 'more or less' (please see my second additions below) is from http://www.iplant.cn/info/Dennstaedtia?t=z (although it is in Chinese, but it can be checked by a translator), because I don't know how to properly handle such edits, so I still added in my additions end with "(The above text is some excerpts from the two articles in Note 5 and Note 6).
My seconde additions:
"Some characteristics of Dennstaedtia:plants terrestrial and medium-sized. The rhizome is creeping, quite stout, covered with hairs, but without scales. The fronds are homomorphic, with a longitudinal groove on the stipe, hairy when young; multipennate, usually more or less hairy throughout the body, especially on rachis. The veins are free, pinnately branches, veinlet not reaching margin, with hydathode at apex. Sori orbicular, marginal, terminal on each veinlet, separate. "(The above text is some excerpts from the two articles in Note 5 and Note 6)."
Sorry for the misunderstanding again, I just like to share my wonderful discovery (it is said that Taiwan's ferns are the densest in the world). Can you please tell me the format for marking "Citations" on the page? I only know the format of "References". If I had known earlier, there would have been no misunderstandings of the past few days. Or I upload it again? and please help to guide the correct edition form, and I can do the same in the future. Best regards. Ping an Chang (talk) 04:52, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Kevmin: Good day! Kevmin. I will upload my "seconde version" when I have time these days, please help in improving my additions. If there is a problem please do not remove it immediately and please give me a chance to clarify. Best regards. Ping an Chang (talk) 04:39, 26 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Kevmin: Good day! Kevmin. Tomorrow I may have time to upload the "new version". I did my best in the time I had. To avoid unnecessary problems, I only used the English reference this time, and wrote it in "my own words" - as Diannaa said, it is not a translation of another reference in Chinese (that can be verified, there are automatic translations on the Internet, the URL of the translated page is too long, it seems inconvenient to list here, I can add it if necessary), which is a pity, because there is more information in the reference in Chinese. I can just upload photos as I often do, but this time it is about a description of the characteristics of a "genre", which is precious and should be the result of observation and research by many scholars. Since I learned, not long ago, about Flora of China on the Internet. I like to share its existence on the wiki when I have the chance - its content may not be 100% perfect, just like academic papers, it is difficult to be 100% perfect -, the articles about native plants of China seem to be lacking on the English Wiki, I think if more contributors know about the existence of Flora of China, they may be able to make more descriptions. At the same time, the "visitors" can also find more information from the Flora of China link. I tried my best, if there are any other questions about my "new version", please don't remove "my own words" immediately and let me know, I will respond as soon as possible. In order for the "visitors" to get more information from Dennstaedtia, please help to improve the content, it is very easy for you, but impossible for me. Thanks in advance. Best regards. Ping an Chang (talk) 03:07, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Kevmin:Good day! Because "Script warning: One or more cite web templates have errors; messages may be hidden (help)." appears on the "Preview" page, I can only put the reference "URL" in brackets, can you please help out? Or wait for other contributors to help. It seems common to see "informations" without reference sources on wiki, so please don't remove the paragraph. Thanks! Best regards. Ping an Chang (talk) 04:45, 30 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Kevmin:Good day! Kevmin. Thank you, really, for giving me the opportunity to clarify that I don't know anything about digital language (I tried to understand in the past and failed. Everyone's natural ability is different.), and really sorry for the misunderstanding that happened recently. I hope you will continue to pay attention to my sharing and give your precious opinions. Thanks in advance. Best regards. Ping an Chang (talk) 03:33, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Diannaa this looks like its a larger issue, as the edits from Plenasium banksiifolium are also copyvios.--Kevmin § 18:33, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Kevmin: I have cleaned that one as well. If you find any more, please remove the copyright content. If you find 5 instances of violations by this user, that's enough that you should consider opening a WP:CCI. Sorry but I don't have time to check all ~400 edits myself right now. — Diannaa (talk) 22:45, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

(There is no copyright issue, just some misunderstandings, I personally have explained it on Diannaa talk: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Diannaa#About_my_additions_in_Plenasium_banksiifolium)

January 2023 edit

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Eric talk 14:03, 11 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Thanks for your message! Please give me some time to understand and try to make a proper summary. Best regards, Ping an Chang (talk) 03:07, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Reference edit

@Kevmin: Hello! First of all, thank you for your long-term contribution to Wikipedia. Can you please tell me the edit codes when the reference is a documentary (video) and when we reuse the same reference? Sorry to disturb you. Ping an Chang (talk) 08:23, 21 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Good morning, if its video format, I would suggest using the AV Media citation template first, and when you set the citation up for the first time be sure to "name" the citation in the ref tag using <ref name="nameofchoice">--Kevmin § 16:42, 21 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much, Kevmin. Ping an Chang (talk) 06:43, 22 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Footnote edit

@Kevmin: Hello! Sorry to bother you! Could you please tell me how to make a "footnote" when editing an article? It is for elaborate, not to provide reference sources. Ping an Chang (talk) 06:02, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I will be honest, I generally don't use footnotes. My philosophy is that if its important enough to mention in a footnote, its important enough to discuss in the main prose of the article.--Kevmin § 15:36, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your reply, Kevmin! I think this is why I haven't seen the "footnote" on the English version. Thanks again. Ping an Chang (talk) 23:02, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

AV Media citation template edit

@Kevmin Thank you for telling me the citation template for video: AV Media. I have tried many times and failed. If we take this video as an example: https://tv.cctv.com/2010/03/22/VIDE1355592512148582.shtml?spm=C55924871139.Pgs04HUnRbTI.0.0 (title="Song of the Forest" Episode 5 "The Red Pine of the North"), can you please tell me which blanks are required? and are there any other details to pay attention to? Sorry bother you! Ping an Chang (talk) 08:16, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
