Orphaned non-free media (File:Bashung Mons Cantique des cantiques.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Bashung Mons Cantique des cantiques.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:35, 29 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:Higelin bbh 75.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Higelin bbh 75.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Wikipedia:Notability edit

Over the years Wikipedia editors have developed a series of notability guidelines to help us make the decision as to what topics to include and what to exclude. For record albums, the relevant guideline is Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Recordings. These criteria are in addition to basic notability criteria, which calls for significant coverage in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the subject. "Multiple" typically means at least three in-depth independent reliable sources. For albums, they need to also meet at least one of the seven criteria listed in the guideline. I saw in your edit summaries that you think these criteria are random, but actually they are not: they are a set of guidelines that have been present here on Wikipedia since practically the very beginning, and we are all obliged to follow them whether we agree with them or not. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:18, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'm aware of the notability criteria; I've read them a long time ago. Whether you believe it or not, their application in practice IS random. A quick look-through Wikipedia will reveal a ton of obscure compilations from the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and how many semi-obscure country acts regular albums or compilations that never even charted and/or seem unreferenced. Alain Bashung plays in the same league as Bob Dylan and others; in France he is an extremely acclaimed and revered artist, considered the French rock god maybe second only to Serge Gainsbourg. I don't see why such albums as The Beatles' Very Together or Los Beatles or for instance Vince Gill's The Essential Vince Gill have any right to be on Wikipedia while regular albums from a highly acclaimed act like Bashung do not. Please stop deleting the two Bashung albums. Thanks in advance.PierrothL (talk) 14:32, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I will not revert you again but I have not changed my opinion that these albums are not notable enough for stand-alone articles. The articles are now back in the queue as unreviewed new articles, and the next reviewer may hold the same opinion as myself and as User:Cindamuse and user:SwisterTwister did when they also turned these into redirects in the past. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:41, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
