Lightweight Communications and Marshalling

You deleted this page a short while ago, yet I believe it was serving a useful purpose. LCM may not be notable to you, but there is in fact a substantial user base (specialized as it is). It is also not commercial, so any concerns about the page serving more as an advertisement than information should be ameliorated. Finally, the acronym has several potentially confusing collisions, which seems to increase the need for disambiguation. These purposes were all served by the wikipedia page which you deleted, and I am unable to find any clear wikipedia criteria which support its removal. Would you restore the page? 141.212.108.187 (talk) 16:44, 19 November 2008 (UTC) (ebolson@umich.edu)Reply

Hi there, I've restored the page, and opened a discussion here. PhilKnight (talk) 16:51, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Grandcountyhighschool.jpg

I noticed you removed the image Grandcountyhighschool.jpg, due to a lack of licensing information. I took that picture a couple years back while attending Grand County High School, and it is currently on their website, [1]. I figured it would probably be deleted eventually. Next time I am in Moab, Utah I will take a new picture of the building and release it into the public domain. Crashedata (talk) 19:23, 4 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Phil! I have had a username rename and still would like to work on this article for educational purposes. By chance could you please restore it along with its edits history to User:A Nobody/List of unsolved problems in Egyptology instead? Thanks! --A NobodyMy talk 15:07, 6 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

One year ago you have deleted the TerrainView-Globe wiki page. Can you help me to undo the deletion? The company has been relaunched in August this year. http://www.viewtec.net

The great catsby character image

Was the rationale missing, or was there a particular reason for an I7?

I think there is an appropriate way to use this as "group" character images are preferable to individual character images. I'll just use the same justification as was used for the group pic for VG Cats WhisperToMe (talk) 03:55, 14 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi WhisperToMe, the great catsby image had a summary, but no rationale. I've restored, and slightly expanded the VG cats image rationale. PhilKnight (talk) 13:38, 14 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I-P articles

Actually, I have now included sample diffs, as I was called away from the computer before I could add them before. Also, so far the two admins commenting have agreed with me. Is it possible your notification was hasty? Jayjg (talk) 19:16, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The I-P ArbCom case didn't indicate that unacceptable conduct should be tolerated, provided it could be demonstrated there was unacceptable behavior on both sides. Also, suggesting that someone who claims to be a victim of stalking should be ignored because they have only reported the stalker is unacceptable. If you had started a new section for problems relating to other editors, that would obviously been entirely acceptable. PhilKnight (talk) 19:28, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't think a single brief comment on WP:AE, which lacked supporting diffs for under an hour, and which was immediately concurred with by two uninvolved admins, constitutes in any way what the Arbcom had in mind when it discussed "unacceptable behavior". Jayjg (talk) 19:38, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
In the context of your latest off-topic posting at WP:AE, I'm not going to retract the notification. PhilKnight (talk) 19:45, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Considering the events discussed here, I am surprised that Jayjg had not been notified already. Mackan79 (talk) 20:58, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looking at that discussion, I agree, he should have been notified earlier. PhilKnight (talk) 21:31, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just letting you know that I posted some more stuff on the WP:AE case. Not saying you should immediately retract the warning to Jaakobou, but it will be much appreciated if you look at what I said and maybe further inspect the dispute going on at the article. In short, it now seems very clear that the issue is a content dispute between Tiamut and Nishidani on one side, and Jaakobou on the other. There are policy violations by both parties, especially Tiamut herself (who filed the WP:AE case in the first place). Please look into it! Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 21:18, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think Ryan's comments are very sensible, and represent the best way forward. PhilKnight (talk) 23:24, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Palestine-Israel articles

Hi there Phil. I was just wondering if you'd mind removing Jayjg from the list of editors notified about the P-I article arbitration? I think it would do a lot to reduce the heat here. He obviously already knows about it and the situation seems to have flared up over such a minor incident. Whilst Jayjg's words were strongly worded, I don't don't think they crept into incivility and he was just expressing his opinion in a meta discussion rather than any disruption on article talk pages. It would be much appreciated if you could take a look into the situation. I'm going to pop to bed soon, but in the morning when I'm fresh I'm going to set up a content RfC and start discussing the possiblities of informal mediation (I'll have a think of a suitable mediator - Wizardman or Seddon spring to mind off the top of my head). Best regards, Ryan PostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 23:37, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ryan, I agree with your approach regarding how to resolve this dispute, however, in the context of comments such as this I'm not going to remove Jayjg from the list. PhilKnight (talk) 23:44, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Following an email discussion with Jayjg, I've removed him from the list. He has agreed not to be the first editor to respond to WP:AE reports that concern the I-P set of articles. PhilKnight (talk) 16:58, 17 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Probably not a big deal in the end. However, I see the template does say: "This message does not necessarily mean that your current editing has been deemed a problem; this is a template message crafted to make it easier to notify any user who has edited the topic of the existence of these sanctions." For what that is worth. Mackan79 (talk) 09:01, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just an FYI, Timeshifter (talk · contribs) re-added Jayjg to the list. I've removed that addition (and notified Timeshifter), because my sense of the ruling is that it really ought to be an uninvolved administrator taking that step. Best, Mackensen (talk) 02:43, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Templates

Erm, why did you delete the previous thread? Phil, I'm starting to get a little worried about what you're doing, and I'm wondering if I should take this to ANI. What's going on? --Elonka 19:11, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Elonka, looking at your talk page, I notice this discussion which says that your intervention can sometimes come across as "bullying and threatening". I would consider your above post to be an example of this problem. I deleted your previous post, and for that matter your earlier posts, because I believe they are unhelpful. PhilKnight (talk) 19:35, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry that you regard my behavior as threatening, I'm not sure what I can do about that. If you'd like, I can go to ANI, explain your concerns, and ask for other opinions. Easier though would be if you were to restore the threads that you deleted. Yes, I could do it, but I'm perplexed as to why I should have to spend time reviewing your contribs to restore things that shouldn't have been deleted in the first place. In short: You can fix the pages, or we can go to the noticeboards, which would you prefer? --Elonka 20:00, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The first example you quoted was an editor saying that she had added a {{unreferenced}} template to a page. In all seriousness, I don't believe the decision on whether this comment should be restored - in the context of the comment no longer being relevant - is the least bit important. PhilKnight (talk) 20:03, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm really not that interested in getting into a detailed discussion on that one. I went ahead and restored the threads to that talkpage. Will you meet me halfway on this? -Elonka 20:25, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

User:Seeyou

I just noticed the Pseudoscience notice you gave to Seeyou. In case you're not aware, the last ANI about Seeyou resulted in the recommendation that Seeyou's behavior should be brought up at RFAR. I think it would be best to leave it to Arbitration Enforcement per your notice. Was that what you had in mind? --Ronz (talk) 02:51, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ronz, yes, I think arbitration enforcement is probably the best way forward at the moment. PhilKnight (talk) 19:56, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks! --Ronz (talk) 21:13, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Patrician Secondary School

Hey, I think this school has two articles and someone redirected Patrician Secondary School to Patrician Secondary School Newbridge but you reverted it. Is there something I missed? Are these two different schools? --Unpopular Opinion (talk · contribs) 21:07, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The correct title of the school is "Patrician Secondary School Newbridge","Patrician Secondary School" was the original page which was made exclusively by vandals. The new page is being writen by the school it's self and is, therefore, more accurate. Ianubuntu (talk) 21:19, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi Unpopular Opinion and Ianubuntu, I've merged the history of the articles. PhilKnight (talk) 22:14, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The information was writen by me for the school website and is therefore under my copyright. Ianubuntu (talk) 09:19, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
In order to confirm this you will need to follow the procedures explained at Wikipedia:Confirmation of permission. PhilKnight (talk) 14:42, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Indefinite IP block

Hey there, I noticed you blocked 98.212.229.85 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) indefinitely. Per Wikipedia:Blocking IP addresses, IP addresses should almost never be indefinitely blocked. I also notice this IP has no block history, and their edits seem to be nothing more than run-of-the-mill vandalism, justifying no more than a 24-31 hour block IMO. Was this a mistake?
