Sabbatino's talk page
editLooks like we've worn out our welcome there. If you wish to continue we can either do as he suggested or stay on one of our own talk pages.
@Sabbatino: Terribly sorry, I will stop and I should have known better. I you'd like, you may move the existing discussions from your page to my talk page beginning with my first post. --DB1729 (talk) 15:08, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Moved from User talk:Sabbatino#Number of Super Bowl wins
- Pardon, but just a brief comment. Not really a (talk page stalker), but stumbling in by chance. @Peepay: The stat is not meaningful across eras. After Super Bowl I, every Green Bay Packers player on the roster had as many or more SB wins as any franchise. In the future it will eventually become an impossibility for any player regardless of their successes.
- Something to consider. --DB1729 (talk) 18:08, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- @DB1729: Sure, statistics change in time, if you applied that logic, the whole page could not be there, "because it could change next year". But still, it is there, it contains the info that is current as of now and when the info changes, the page is updated. Similarly, this piece of trivia is valid now, so it can be included while it lasts - and when it is no longer true, it can be removed.Peepay (talk) 09:58, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Peepay: You're missing my point. It doesn't work across other sports either. Imagine what it would take for a baseball player to do the same thing with World Series wins. Is Lewis Hamilton's 7 world championships diminished because Ferrari has 16? Bill Russell? He only has 11 compared to the Celtics 17. The stat is not a meaningful indicator of how great these accomplishments are. It is an artifact of the timing. It depends more on when the player's career existed in relation to the start of the championship, than it does how many championships the player has himself. It is WP:Cruft. --DB1729 (talk) 11:16, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
- @DB1729: It's common for a team to have more victories than a single person, because the team was around for a longer time, that's why it's very interesting when it's the other way around, that a single person (with limited life span) has more than any team. Despite all what you said, I still think it is an interesting piece of trivia that people would be glad to have learned (just like I was), but given this opposition, I give up. Peepay (talk) 13:32, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Peepay: We do have it here on Wikipedia. Please see Tom Brady#NFL career records in the Super Bowl subsection, the first entry:
Brady's seven Super Bowl victories is more than any one NFL franchise has in total (New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers have six)
- I should have clarified the opposition was more about where and in what context, but instead I was more responding to your post with my own general opinion about the stat. We should carefully frame such trivia (if we include it all) in the appropriate context. (And to be honest, I'm not really a fan of including at all). --DB1729 (talk) 14:21, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

- @DB1729: The fact that it's included on Tom Brady's page in his records is a fair replacement, I believe. Peepay (talk) 15:11, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
