Signature edit

Hi Pannie196. Thanks for your recent contributions. Just to let you know: you only need to sign your additions to talk pages (like this one), not when you add information into an article (I have removed your signatures from the 1950 Formula One season article). If you have any further questions, please don't hesistate to leave a message on my talk page. Also, if you are interested in editing other articles related to Formula One, you may care to join the Formula One WikiProject. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 01:28, 23 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: 1950 Formula One season edit

Hi Pannie196. In response to your questions on my talk page:

  • Personally, I wouldn't bother listing the teams and drivers who only participated in the Indy 500 races - in most cases it would double the length of the table for (in my opinion) not much benefit - I think the "Teams and Drivers" table should focus on the teams and drivers who contested the majority of the season. Likewise for the F2 entries in 1957, 1958, 1966, 1967 and 1969.
  • The use of the term "FIA World Championship" for the seasons before 1981 is a bit of a compromise in the interests of simplicity - we didn't want to use the term "Formula One World Championship" because it wouldn't be accurate for 1952 and 1953 (when all the races were F2 races) and we didn't want to just use "World Championship" because that was too vague. Strictly speaking I guess the 1950 season article should say "The 1950 Formula One season included the inaugural World Drivers' Championship" (or is it "World Championship for Drivers"? - I'm never sure which was the official name in English), but if you go down that path then when you get to 1958 you would have to say "The 1958 Formula One season included the 9th World Drivers' Championship and the 1st (World?) Constructors' Championship" and it all gets a bit complicated. Perhaps the matter should be raised for discussion at WP:F1.

Finally, note that I moved your questions from my talk page archive back onto my active talk page - usually the talk page owner is responsible for moving items to their archive page. Feel free to ask if you have any further questions. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 15:17, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
