About the article "Giving It Away..."

edit

Hello @Operawales, welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for you contributions!

Congratulations on the new article you have created. I have a few suggestions to improve it.

I think that it's possible to create better citations and references, to show that the book meets notability guidelines and to help the readers to verify the information published in the article.

  • Read Referencing for beginners if you haven't done so already. Among other things, this page explains how to use the RefToolbar in the Wikipedia edit window to easily create references.
  • Statements published in magazine should be associated to a Template:Cite magazine citation, which can't be added through the RefToolbar, so you have to insert it in the page code manually. Please note that, if a magazine is accessible only through subscription, the template gives you a way to specify so.
  • The goal of a citation is to support the material published in the Wikipedia article. For istance, for the claim "It was first published in October 2020 in paperback format, and subsequently in hardback, digital and audiobook formats, the latter narrated by the author.[1]" the source at [1] should be a reliable source that explicitly states so. If you can't find a source for that, you can't make that claim in the article.
  • The type of source is also an important aspect; please read WP:NOR to learn more.

Understanding which sources to use and how to create citations and references can be tricky and it can take time. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Also, please consider moving the article to a Draft space temporarily, if you feel that updating claims, sources and references might take some time.

Hello @LowLevel73 - thanks so much, this is so useful! This is my first article on a book (the first of many I hope) and in hindsight I jumped the gun on publishing it (in a bit of a tired state at the end of a long day's work). Your input is exactly what I need and is so helpful, I'm very grateful! Operawales (talk) 09:49, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Operawales, I've seen from your contributions that you have removed a few red links from existing articles.

Sometimes it would be better to keep red links or to improve them. I'll leave here a link to a page that explains how to deal with them.

For example, in at least two cases (this and this) the red links that you removed pointed to subjects that have an article in a non-English Wikipedia.

In these cases it would be better to add a link to the non-English article (instead of the red link or next to it) as explained in the guideline page mentioned above. The red link may be kept depending on whether the associated topic can meet the notability guidelines of the English Wikipedia. ► LowLevel73 (talk) 11:23, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks @LowLevel73, that's really useful stuff. Where I've removed red links it's usually where it's seemed that an article has been removed on notability grounds, but there's loads of detail on that in the article you've linked, so that's sharpened my awareness of that whole topic a lot. Thanks again for the tips! Operawales (talk) 19:02, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@LowLevel73 PS I've now updated the Meirion Williams article you linked to include the link to the Welsh language article on Llanenddwyn - great stuff. Operawales (talk) 19:06, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
