Speedy deletion of Occupational apartheid edit

A tag has been placed on Occupational apartheid requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. TallNapoleon (talk) 00:03, 4 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

OT Wikiflash edit

Hi! I read your comments on the imminent OT Wikiflash to improve OT related articles. I think the extra attention from subject-matter experts on those articles is a great thing! For those participants who may not be regular Wikipedia editors, you may want to pass along some quick links to some of the relevant policies:

  • WP:NPOV - Neutral point of view. Articles should be written from a neutral perspective, neither promoting nor diminishing the subject.
  • WP:N - Notability. This is a standard for inclusion in the Wiki. Generally, a subject should have been written up in several unrelated, third party sources to qualify for inclusion.
  • WP:V and WP:RS - Verifiability and Reliable Sources. All facts should be verifiable by citations to reliable, third-party sources.
  • WP:COI - Conflict of Interest. People with a close attachment to the subject should exercise extra caution )or refrain from editing) articles relate to that subject. This does not mean that OT experts can't edit OT articles though. Its more that an article about a particular company or product should not be edited by an employee of that company. Or that an article about a particular method or process should not be edited by the inventor thereof.

Lastly, when doing major changes to an article, I suggest adding the text {{underconstruction}} (with the 2 curly braces included) to the very top line of the article. This will tag it as undergoing a major renovation, so wholesale changes to the page layout are less likely to get reverted. Be sure to remove that tag when finished though!

If I can be of any assistance, please leave me a note on my Talk page, linked in my sig. Happy editing! ArakunemTalk 22:34, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the valuable information and the support of our project. I have included the text on the article in hope that it will prevent it being deleted and will take your advice regarding providing further sources of reference. When I began this article, I wasn't aware that I would be required to fill the page immediately, I thought this was a project that I could complete over a space of a few weeks. It just feels a tad pressurised with Wikipedia admins threatening to delete my article if I don't extend it now. I am a final year student you see and have an awful lot of work to complete, other than this. This was just something I wanted to do for pleasure. But it feels like the pleasure has been taken out of it. Again, thank you for your support and your advice. (Occupational scientist (talk) 23:01, 6 October 2008 (UTC))Reply

  • As far as the deletions go, all the article needs to do is demonstrate notability (via the WP:N criteria) to avoid a deletion. It can be a very small article, but as long as it shows notability, it gets tagged as a Stub, and can be expanded on a less immediate schedule. Alternately, you can work on an article in your own userspace by putting a / after your username in the link bar, followed by the article title (such as User:Occupational scientist/Occupational apartheid at your own pace, and when its ready to go into the main article space, you can just use the Move tab to move it to its final location (without the User:Occupational scientist prefix).
