Notification of automated file description generation edit

Your upload of File:Bob Krist photo.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Minor edits and edit summaries edit

I'm afraid that I have to complain about a few of your recent edits; or rather, about the Wikiquette associated with them.

First, you reverted two of my edits to Bob Krist, and didn't provide an edit summary ([1] and [2]). This verges on the discourteous. It's considered acceptable to leave no summary when reverting obvious vandalism. However, WP:EQ states "When reverting other people's edits, give a rationale for the revert (on the article's talk page, if necessary), and be prepared to enter into an extended discussion over the edits in question", and WP:REVEXP goes into detail on the point. Note that I justified my original edits as best I could, in the limited space afforded by the edit summary; and I'd be happy to discuss them at greater length on the talk page.

Second, when I look at the page history, I note that you've marked most of your edits as minor. Per WP:MINOR, many of these did not meet the criteria for a minor edit. Note in particular the section headed "When not to mark an edit as a minor edit", which begins "Adding or removing content in an article". The problem with marking non-minor edits as minor ones is that some editors have their watchlists set to exclude minor edits; inappropriately checking the minor-edit box could convey the misleading impression that you're trying to sneak in a major edit under the radar.

If you'd like to discuss my particular edits at the Krist page, we should probably do so at the article's talk page. See you on the field of reasoned discussion! — Ammodramus (talk) 00:30, 23 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
