Derek Jeter edit

Thanks for your efforts at consensus with regard to the Derek Jeter page. I've since responded, but fear that User:RGTraynor will stop at nothing in his attempts to force this myth into the article . --Brian Brockmeyer 21:32, 18 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome. It looks like this one is heading for arbitration one way or the other. Since I don't know anything about Jeter's actual background, I'm going to steer clear there. :-) --Nlu 22:06, 18 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Vandals edit

Thanks for doing the good working finding, fighting and reporting these. I'm on for good chunks of time during the week. If I'm around you can give me a holler and I'll do what I can. Wikibofh 20:04, 19 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. :-) --Nlu 21:58, 19 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Great job edit

Great job monitoring for all of these vandals. I've been watching the users that you have been warning (and blocking them where appropriate). Keep this up and you'll definitely be a candidate for admin!!  ;-). One note, please remember to subst: the templates. Let me know if you ever need any help....and I'll try to keep up with you :-). >: Roby Wayne Talk • Hist • E@ 02:43, 21 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. --Nlu 07:51, 21 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
But actually, I think I disagree a bit on the subst: issue. I understand the concern about server load and also appearing cookie-cutter. But I think for vandals, appearing cookie-cutter is a good thing. Further, it allows the subsequent warners (not all of whom may be necessarily familiar with the warning templates) be able to see immediately what the progression of the warning templates is, and know what template to warn the vandal with next. It is my opinion that in fact, warning templates should not be subst:'d. --Nlu 07:58, 21 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
I can understand your points. Even with subst:, the messages all appear to be "form letters" and "cookie-cutter"-like :-). I bet we could have the templates changed to include a comment as the first part of the text (cause honestly, I get them messed up on sight sometimes) such as '''<!--First Warning!-->''' and '''<!--Second Warning-->'''. Persistent vandals are even worse because they have multiple days of warnings and block notices. Yeesh!!!  :-). -- >: Roby Wayne Talk • Hist • E@ 18:25, 21 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

CVU removal edit

I see that you removed yourself from CVU. Is there a problem? Or is this a temporary edit? --Nlu 19:50, 22 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Obviously some people think they can just overload me with more and more stress and expect me to stay calm. I am tried of putting up with constant threats of "oh you just lost your chance of being admin" and other nonsense. Then you have the people trolling/staliking and in addition an arbcom that can barely ask stalkers nicely to leave me alone. It all adds up to this. --Cool Cat Talk 19:57, 22 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

User:201.137.208.21 edit

Hi, Nlu! I see that you listed User:201.137.208.21 on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism page but I can't find any contribs. Can you repost with the correct IP or note the articles vandalised? Thanks!! >: Roby Wayne Talk • Hist • E@ 20:09, 22 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Missed final digit of IP. Will repost. Thanks. --Nlu 20:10, 22 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Mediation edit

Hey Nlu! I saw your WP:RFM, but you need to say who's involved. And if you're interested, I will be the mediator of the case (unless I'm rejected) Redwolf24 (talk) 21:02, 22 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Please see WP:RFM for the user listings. --Nlu 21:08, 22 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

What are your recomendations in cleaning up Article ? edit

What are your recomendations in "cleaning up" the article:"Fictional Resistance Movement/Fictional Resistance Groups ? The article is about FICTIONAL resistance fighters fighting aliens and the like.

Appreciate your honesty.Martial Law 07:05, 24 October 2005 (UTC) :)Reply

Basically, I see a couple problems with the article:
Having a slash in the article is a bad idea, because /, as you should know, denotes a subdirectory in Unix, and therefore this would put the article in a subdirectory that doesn't fit with general Wikipedia structure.
Content-wise, the article needs to be more wikified (with contextual links), and also needs to be tightened up in style and language.
Thanks for writing me. I appreciate your thoughtfulness in trying to improve your article. You can't imagine how many people get offended when they get {{cleanup}} tags. :-) --Nlu 07:07, 24 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

How do I get rid of it ? Its even in the title. Can this be cleaned up ? I'm new here, been here for a SHORT time.Martial Law 07:17, 24 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

This referred to article is a stub, in need of help. How do I set up a contexual link, tighten up the article ?Martial Law 07:22, 24 October 2005 (UTC) :)Reply

To move the article, you need to click on the "move" link on top of the page and enter a new title (you might be too new of a user to do that, but in a couple days you'd be able to do that; you can also ask for an administrator (I am not an administrator) for help.
As far as general editing is concerned -- I can't really explain it thoroughly. I'm going to put a {{welcome}} tag on your talk page. The links in the tag will provide more guidance. --Nlu 07:29, 24 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Appreciate the help. Seen the results. Title looks great.Martial Law 07:54, 24 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

How do I dump the ------------- - like boxes ?Martial Law 07:59, 24 October 2005 (UTC) :)Reply
Hmmm, good question. I am not sure how they came into beings in the first place. My guess is: don't do the indentation yourself. Use : (multiple layers if you need to) to handle the indentation. --Nlu 13:04, 24 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Tried to clean up the article, had even submitted it to a cleanup task force. Is THAT the right thing to do? Found something on these boxes in a article referring to these templates like the one placed on my contribution.Martial Law 22:44, 24 October 2005 (UTC) :)Reply

Vicente Fox edit

He's hardly ever called "Chente", it isn't like "Dubya" for George W. Bush. For a Google test "Chente Fox" only has 922 results, while "Vicente Fox" has 2.29 million results. It certainly isn't like calling William Jefferson Clinton "Bill Clinton" --Vizcarra 16:51, 24 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

OK, thanks. I won't add it then. --Nlu 18:51, 24 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

User page vandalism edit

Copy Request edit

Can I get a copy of the Counter Vandalisim Unit moved to MY talk page, so that I'll know if someone had tried to vandalize it ? Martial Law 22:55, 24 October 2005 (UTC) :)Reply

Reason I had asked is that another user and I had recently found some obscene material.Martial Law 23:04, 24 October 2005 (UTC) :)Reply

I am not sure what you mean. You can tell whether your page has been vandalized by looking at your page's history. Can you clarify what you meant by having a copy moved to your talk page? Certainly, I think it would be misleading if you duplicate the entire CVU page on your talk page; that's not what a talk page is for, but is for people to send you messages and for you to respond back. --Nlu 03:13, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Appreciate the info.Martial Law 01:15, 26 October 2005 (UTC) :)Reply

sorry edit

I really don't like racists or trash talking about the recently dead and Rosa is protected by both beliefs. grazon 05:00, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

No problem, but we shouldn't fall to their level. If we're warning them for trolling and vandalism, we shouldn't engage in that ourselves. I understand your feelings. --Nlu 05:01, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Need a look at a article edit

The article is "Gold Prospectors Association of America". need you to have a look @ it, so that I will NOT have problems with it later on.Martial Law 01:15, 26 October 2005 (UTC) :)Reply

It looks generally OK; just need to tidy up some of the language, but otherwise looks OK. Of course, it's totally outside my area of expertise, so I am not sure that I can critique it well. Oh, also, add more wikilinks and fix up the external links. --Nlu 02:59, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Signing edit

I can't sign the Defcon indicator as you saw. Any idea why?

Prodego talk 18:47, 28 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I don't know, and that's a good question. I think that maybe next time you can try to sign just your name and time without the fancy signature you have, and see what happens? :-) :-( --Nlu 21:07, 28 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

The problem is I have to type that manualy. ;-) Oh well.

reblocking request edit

If I reblock him for a longer time, the autoblocker on his IP will be reset. Not sure what to do, but I think I'll just let the shorter block stay. And when/if he returns vandalising when it expires, he's up for an indefinite block. But just ignore him for now on his talk-page. Shanes 12:46, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

OK, thanks. --Nlu 12:54, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

See my user page history - he vandalized me today. Rex071404 216.153.214.94 00:45, 31 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to request a block (I am not an admin and therefore can't block people). --Nlu 00:46, 31 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Actually, he hasn't vandalized since given {{test4}}, so I'll hold off on that. --Nlu 00:47, 31 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
