Happy New Year! edit

A cat to ease all of your troubles
Happy New Year!
Hey there, Nixeagle/Archive/2009! Happy new Gregorian year. All the best for the new year, both towards you and your family and friends too. I know that I am the only person lonely enough to be running this thing as the new year is ushered in, but meh, what are you going to do. I like to keep my templated messages in a satisfactorily melancholy tone. ;)

Congratulations to Coren, Wizardman, Vassyana, Carcharoth, Jayvdb, Casliber, Risker, Roger Davies, Cool Hand Luke and Rlevse, who were all appointed to the Arbitration Committee after the ArbCom elections. I am sure I am but a voice of many when I say I trust the aforementioned users to improve the committee, each in their own way, as listed within their respective election statements. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to update the 2009 article, heh.

Best wishes, neuro(talk) 00:54, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria edit

I appreciate the intent of your action at this page, but you protected the page on the innovation, which there is no support for, rather than the longstanding version that was arrived at by consensus. It's really up to those who want to innovate to gain support for their change (we can dig up policies to support that if you like, but I think you're aware that that is reasonable). So please revert it yourself to the stable version and all's cool. Grace Note (talk) 04:28, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Do you know? BOT looks like it isn't working edit

It's been over 8 hours since DYK updated. You know what could be causing that? Thegreatdr (talk) 08:13, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have messed with it some from my blackberry, but I may not be able to get down to it untill next week due to the holidays. When I go to the page that runs the bot (for this bot you have to visit a php page to run it... Toolserver simply points a webbrowser at it to run...) it tells me that it has nothing to do. When I get back to a real computer I will take a look at the code and try to fix it. Until then someone is just going to have to do the bots job. —— nixeagle 21:22, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

3RRbot edit

May I ask why your bot is accusing me of 3RR violations here? --66.102.80.212 (talk) 06:51, 4 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

That bot only looks for potential edit warring and 3RR violations. Being listed there does not imply that you have violated 3RR. (it is wholly possible that you reverted a vandal 3 or 4 times). —— nixeagle 19:49, 5 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

dykbot edit

I'll have a quick look, Thanks for your efforts irrespective. Anything in particular or just to find the unexpected. Victuallers (talk) 19:43, 5 January 2009 (UTC) I have looked around. Unfortunately the old bot was quite new so I did not know its every move. However the update is done and looks OK, the archive also looks OK. My only question is... It updated from queue 2 and it now say queue 2 is ready for updating. I don't know if this is unusual but I would have expected from my last programming experience that there would be one pointer for the queue that was next to be loaded to the main page; and another pointer that pointed at the next empty queue. But I don't know the algorithm... so this is just a question of my own doubt. Hope this helps ....I also checked the credit process and that looks ok too. DYKbot message edit

You left a notice at the DYK discussion page which I found a bit confusing. Do you mean you don't want anyone to manually update for another 24 hours? When exactly can we do the next update? Because it's overdue already. Gatoclass (talk) 08:14, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh dear, I think I may have just updated at the wrong time then. I thought you were offline and wouldn't be back until tomorrow. Hope I didn't screw up your debugging. Gatoclass (talk) 09:28, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry nixeagle, I will make sure not to do the update next time around. I will also leave a message on the DYK discussion page to that effect, if you haven't done so already. Gatoclass (talk) 09:48, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Actually, the next update will be done from queue page #5, not #4. I forgot to bump the count, but Dravecky's done it now.
I might leave a message on the Queue #5 page telling admins not to update it so that someone doesn't accidentally do the same again. Gatoclass (talk) 10:00, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've left a message on the Queue #5 page reminding admins not to post it to the mainpage. I don't think it should interfere with the bot, but feel free to remove it if you think it might. Gatoclass (talk) 10:06, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nixeagle, are you running the bot right now? Something from an IP address is leaving messages every 5 minutes on the talk pages of several of us who had hooks in the queue. I've blocked the IP address for an hour so that it will stop and am trying to figure out what is actually going on. (See [1]) Karanacs (talk) 22:00, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I do not know what caused it to do that and I will not be able to check until tommorrow. I advise that IP remain blocked as I am unable to modify the crontab that the bot is running off of over my phone. —— nixeagle 05:13, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
The IP will remain blocked, so no hurry at the moment. Thank you for looking into the issue. Karanacs (talk) 15:26, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

SPI edit

Hiya,

Just so you're aware, I've been doing some cleanup before SPI goes live. I was told you'd be round on Monday so I've tried to get a lot of stuff done today, and one of those is, I have moved most pages to their "final URLs" (list of SPI process subpages). Which means the bot will need its page names updated for any wiki page names it accesses. There's probably more stuff to do but we're close to completion; I just wanted you to know about this one as it affects the bot.

I'm maintaining (and actively striking out when done) a list of "stuff to make sure is clean before it goes live" on the SPI talk page, if you want some idea :) A lot of these are just "check its all good beforehand" and "clean up working pages". A couple may still affect the bot but not in such a way as this.

3RR Bot? edit

Hey Eagle, is the bot working? I've not seen anything pop into the channel lately. No worries; best wishes for the New Year. Lazulilasher (talk) 01:27, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ditto. Nixeagle, could you please nudge the bot? I've seen no bot updates to User:3RRBot/bot reported disruption and 3RR violations since December 30. --Elonka 03:15, 10 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hooray, seems to be working again, thanks for whatever you did.  :) --Elonka 22:41, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

RFCU bot formatting issue edit

Heya, I finally tackled down an issue that was bothering me for a while: having a full case on a single line breaks the collapse template:

{{Collapse top|[[Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Nixeagle]]}}{{Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Nixeagle}}{{Collapse bottom}}

breaks the formatting, when

{{Collapse top|[[Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Nixeagle]]}}
{{Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Nixeagle}}
{{Collapse bottom}}

will work. I hope it's easily possible to change that :S. -- lucasbfr talk 14:50, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes I can change that, just requires changes to the parsing as well as the \n part. —— nixeagle 17:55, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Out of curiosity... why did ya contact me? I don't recall ever doing anything related to this category or editing articles in the category. You did nothing wrong by letting me know, just I'm curious :) —— nixeagle 18:01, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Well, it was Twinkle that chose you, but according to the history you were the first editor to touch it. :D --Deadly∀ssassin 19:37, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • Nice :P. BTW, if you are going to take the time to use the talkback template, just copy the conversation from your page to my page, as I'm going to do now. —— nixeagle 19:45, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

User:DYKadminBot edit

Why aren't they using User:DYKadminBot?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 15:31, 10 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

We'd love to have it operational again, that's for sure. - Dravecky (talk) 09:07, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Working on it... probably tomorrow. —— nixeagle 18:00, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Awesome! I and my disrupted sleep schedule await happy news. - Dravecky (talk) 00:37, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

IRC summary bot edit

Hi,

chuck told me on IRC that you have some kind of summary bot. Can you please show me how you reliably get the 1st sentence of an article?

Thanks, HardDisk (talk) 12:44, 3 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

On my todo list... signing here to halt archiving. —— nixeagle 12:21, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
