Speedy deletion nomination of St Pauls, Clifton, Bristol edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on St Pauls, Clifton, Bristol requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Yasht101 17:14, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Defence edit

Given the fact that the designs of the mosaics held in St Pauls were copied in a number of other churches, and that they make up a set covering nearly 30 years of work, starting with the reredos, they are a unique collection. They may not be the work of a famous artist, but artisanal work like this deserves as much celebration as the greatvartist. It is a strong part of our heritage and history. Hi Nigel, thanks for your efforts in expanding Bristol articles.

I've started doing some work on this article myself. I know Clifton, although don't know this church well, but I also have some experience with WP and its foibles. One change I have made is to merge the sub-sections as sections rather than as articles. As you've probably noticed, local culture doesn't favour such a split! If there is sufficient content to warrant such a split, then it can easily be done later (although I think it has to be the Baptistry in Firenze before such a split is seen as necessary!).

For the stained glass, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stained glass windows of St Pauls, Clifton and also the mosaics, then you might be able to re-add this to the article yourself, or else ask an admin (maybe user:Jezhotwells (Bristolian) or user:DGG) to retrieve it and paste it in. Copyright edit

Re St Pauls, Clifton, Bristol – I've removed virtually all of the article because it was taken virtually word for word from the church's website, and so was an apparent breach of the church's copyright. It isn't enough to put the church website as a source for some of the paragraphs - the wording has to be different. It's generally best to write about churches (for example) using multiple sources so that one doesn't become too wedded to the text of any particular source - what does Pevsner say about it, for example? Is it listed, and if so what do the listing documents say? Has it been mentioned in any books or journals (Google Books is a good source)? Mix the sources together without using "copy and paste" and you'll be OK. See WP:COPYVIO and Wikipedia:Copy-paste for more information. Regards, BencherliteTalk 21:23, 7 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
