The article Nidahasa news has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Notability of Sinhala24news edit

A tag has been placed on Sinhala24news requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. BlueAzure (talk) 03:24, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sunil Perera edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Sunil Perera, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.gypsies.lk/Biography.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Speedy deletion nomination of Sunil Perera edit

A tag has been placed on Sunil Perera requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Nezzadar 14:39, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Your contributed article, "how i wonder what You Are edit

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, "how i wonder what You Are. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Shutter Island (film). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Shutter Island (film) - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. C628 (talk) 12:13, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:How i wonder what you are 1.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:How i wonder what you are 1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Speedy deletion of How I Wonder What You Are edit

Hello Nidahasa, this is a message from an automated bot to inform you that the page you created on May 2 2010, How I Wonder What You Are, has been marked for speedy deletion by User:Wipeouting (page has mainspace links, and 39 edits). Please read WP:PROD. A prod tag may be removed by the author of an article. CSD tags may not. When a PROD tag has been removed it can't be prodded a second time. Instead the article has to be taken to AfD. As far as Chinthana Dharmadasa is concerned I concur with Sodabottle: the refs indicate that the subject meets the general notability guideline so the de-prodding was warranted. Replaceable fair use File:Titus Thotawatte.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Titus Thotawatte.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 12:27, 25 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your addition to How I Wonder What You Are has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. A close paraphrase of the synopsis is still a copyright problem. Whpq (talk) 17:14, 25 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • This synopsis has been completely re-written by me, using the mentioned web site as the source of information. But this is the synopsis for same film and the synopsis published at the site is my only source. (I didn't watched the actual movie). Can you please suggest me a way to re-write the synopsis without facing to copyright issues? Thank You. Nidahasa (talk) 17:28, 25 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • The problem is that the synopsis you have written follows the same structure almost sentence for sentence from the film's site. Furthermore, many of the phrases have been copied as well. I've restore a plot summary from an earlier version of the the article to replace it. -- Whpq (talk) 17:36, 25 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Ok Thanks for quick respond. I think that plot summary you have restored is enough for now. I hope to write a better synopsis as sson as i watched the film. Nidahasa (talk) 17:39, 25 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Discussions of your articles at DRV edit

Hello Nidahasa - I commented on one of your articles being discussed at DRV and saw your comments in a 2nd discussion there. I have the feeling you are misinterpreting how we use sources to establish "notability". A number of your cites are essentially weblinks to pages which assert "director X is working on movie Y" and you say in your comments at DRV "how many movies does a director need to create to be notable". This is not the approach we use. What would be relevant are sources that discuss the director in an extensive way. As you said, a director may be notable and only have made one movie. The flip side of that is that a director may have made 20 movies, but if there are no sources about him out there that do more than assert that he has made those movies, then he is not notable enough for an article on wikipedia.

I'm not trying to destroy your work here and I don't run around marking articles for deletion. But I think you may be deploying your energies looking for the wrong kinds of sources. Your first creations of the articles were "speedily deleted" since they had no (or very few sources) and so - as written - did not meet inclusion standards. You have added enough that - in my opinion - it is no longer *clear* that your articles do not meet inclusion standards and hence should no longer be summarily deleted without discussion. However, anyone can still nominate an article for the several-day-long discussion process at WP:AFD and I think that for the reasons I mention above, they would not fare well in such a discussion. Martinp (talk) 11:35, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi, Thanks for your concern. And i'm new to Wikipedia and have lot more to learn. But the main problem here is, many of topics i've wrote are Sri Lanka related article. In Sri Lanka, it's hard to find enough online sources about even very notable peoples. For example the article about Sunil Perera. Sunil Perera is one of most famous singer in this country. Everyone knows him. Any contributor from Sri Lanka will confirm it. But i've only found very few online references to cite. And many of those references are in Sinhala language, not in English. As i know citing references in other language is agaisnt Wikipedia policy. Yes, i know, i can also cite printed materials which are not available online. But the problem is i'm not in a situation to search for those references.
Anyway thank for your help and advices.. Nidahasa (talk) 17:10, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Nidahasa, to my knowledge Wikipedia policy is to favour English sources if they are of the same quality as nonEnlish ones (see WP:CITE). If Sinhalese sources do a better job establishing notability, I would suggest you include them. Martinp (talk) 20:41, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:Colamba.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Colamba.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. File permission problem with File:Chinthana dharmadasa.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Chinthana dharmadasa.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Proposed deletion of Keshan Perera edit

The article Keshan Perera has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Lacks significant coverage in multiple independent reliable secondary sources

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
