Nick Marino: keyboard player, composer and vocalist


Nick Marino, also known as Nick Z Marino, Nick Marinovich, Zelko, Zeljko Marinovic (born Željko Marinović, Serbia) is a singer, songwriter, producer and keyboard player. Marino is the keyboard player and lead vocalists for the American metal/rock band NZM. He is also the keyboard player and vocalists for Yngwie Malmsteen. Marino was the keyboard player for Generation Axe and the keyboard player/backing vocalist for KC and the Sunshine Band. He is endorsed by YAMAHA.

Biography

Nick Marino was born in Serbia where he attended classical music school. In 1987, he released the album, Unucici, with the band Unucici, on Jugodisk. In 1991, Marino won the Belgrade Spring Festival Song Contest for singing a duet and was featured on the album Beograde-Hitovi Beogradskog Proleća. In 1992, Marino released his first solo rock/pop album, Aliluja, on PGP-RTB before locating to the United States in 1995 to pursue his musical career. Marino has always been strongly influenced by neoclassical metal and rock music. In 1999, Marino sang and composed the song “Sunshine” for the compilation album Alternative Rock Attitude on Koka Media. He performed as a keyboard player and backing vocalist with KC and the Sunshine Band from 1997-2010. Marino sang and played keyboards for Yngwie Malmsteen in 2005 and 2009-2017. Marino released his first US solo rock album for Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force Records, Freedom Has No Price, in 2010. He formed his own rock/metal band, NZM, in 2013, where Marino is the lead vocalist, keyboard player, songwriter and producer. Marino released two NZM albums, Eternal Fire in 2014 and Alive in 2016. Marino played keyboards for Generation Axe featuring Steve Vie, Zakk Wilde, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tosin Abasi, and Nuno Bettencourt on the 2016 US/Canada tour.


NZM (2013 – Present)

Marino is the producer, songwriter, lead vocalist and keyboard player for the American metal/rock band NZM. NZM toured Switzerland in 2015 showcasing their first album, Eternal Fire. NZM released their second album, Alive, in 2016.


Nick Marino (2009-2012)

Marino released his first solo American rock album, Freedom Has No Price, on Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force Records in 2010. Marino was the songwriter, producer, lead vocalist and keyboard player.


Generation Axe (2016)

In 2016, Marino joined Generation Axe featuring Steve Vie, Zakk Wilde, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tosin Abasi, and Nuno Bettencourt, as the keyboard player and toured the US and Canada.


Yngwie Malmsteen (2005 and 2009-2017)

In 2005, Marino joined Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force as the keyboard player for the United States/Japan Unleash the Fury tour. In 2009, Marino rejoined the band and toured worldwide until 2017. In November 2010, Marino was featured in Keyboard Magazine, “Nick Z Marino Shredding with Yngwie Malmsteen”. In 2011, Marino was featured on Malmsteen’s Relentless album. In 2013, Marino became the lead vocalist, as well as, the keyboard player, and was featured on the live CD Spellbound Live in Tampa and DVD Spellbound Live in Orlando. Marino continued to be the lead vocalist and keyboard player for Malmsteen until 2017.


KC and the Sunshine Band (1997-2010)

Marino toured worldwide with KC and the Sunshine Band as a keyboard player and background singer from 1997-2010. In 2004, Marino played with KC and the Sunshine Band and other artists such as Gloria Gaynor, Thelma Houston, Anita Ward, The Tramps, and Maxine Nightengale on the DiscoMania world tour. Marino also performed with KC and the Sunshine Band on numerous television shows including, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” (1998), “The Roseanne Show” (1999), “Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” (2000), “Good Morning America” (2000), “American Bandstand’s 50th Anniversary Party” (2002), “The Ellen DeGeneras Show” (2004), “The Today Show” (2006), and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
