Sockpuppet?

Chhattisgarh

Hello "Nichalp" - the vehicle plate symbol for Chhattisgarh is CG, I beleive so - based on a tele-talk right now with a person at Chennai who had been to Chhattisgarh, and he told me: CG. Geography articles

I posted your suggestions to the talk-page of Papua New Guinea. You seem to have quite a clear concept of what a country-article should look like. Many of the country articles here need improvement badly, long before tiny PNG does, look at Brazil for instance. I thought you might be interested in founding a geography collaboration? Yes, I have critiqued a few country and city articles in the past in Peer review and Featured Article Candidates. I agree with you that country article should be given a higher priority. I don't think I can be committed to a geography collaboration. I am willing to lend my ideas, but contributing and taking care of them will take up a lot of my time. India page images

An anon User:130.237.79.106 had been replacing the images on the India page. I had messaged him yesterday, but after receiving no response after two warnings I blocked him. He emailed me saying that the images were too balanced in favour of North India. Since I had selected the images, I checked the list.

1. Taj is from N. India
2. Gumpa dance is fron NE India; Sikkim
3. Goa temple is from W India
4. Sanchi stupa is from Central India
5. Infosys is from S. India
6. Himalayas, Vishnu, and Holi can be replaced by more representative images.

It is well balanced. Unfortunately, some of us South Indians mistakenly see everything to the north of us (including the west and north-east) as North India. Perhaps you can add Pongal to the list of secular Indian festivals and Onam to the list of Hindu? festivals to balance the culture section. I've reworded it a bit, but still not sure if Pongal should be mentioned there. One argument in favour of having it is because it is a nearly true secular festival. Hi, Would you please add Diwali image instead of the holi image? The image I tried to add, and you reverted is licenced. I think for an image of that size, the arrangement of lamps looks a lot better and represents Diwali better than a thumbnail of pictures showing people having good time. Cricket pics

As I said to Albinomonkey when he first emailed them to me, the file I got was very corrupted. Only four of the images would display, and they were all of a cricket ball. Sorry about that. What is it you need though? I have a Slazenger V200 bat, a ball perfect for illustrating rough side and shiny side, a set of pads, and a digital camera. I could probably get them tonight if you needed them, but I'd rather know what you needed first... As I say, though, Albinomonkey's zip file was very corrupted (or maybe just curtailed), so I can't give you those, else I would have done some time ago! Cheers, smoddy 17:08, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Ya, even I wasn't sure about the license. I took it that since they're public servants and it is part of the citizens' right to information, it should be free. Feel free to delete them and remove the links in a couple of articles in English wikipedia.

About the categorisation error, I admit to my laziness. I knew it was wrong, but didn't have the patience to look for categories. I know. Kannur was selected last sunday, and today completes one week. A new article is [supposed to be] chosen every week. Sumalsn had nominated it but failed to contribute anything during the past week, despite me informing him. Had there been more edits to the article, I could have left it for one more week though. Bear in mind that commitment must be shown mainly by the persons who nominate and support it. If I leave it too long people who vote for current articles will lose interest. Licensing form

The idea has been proposed many times, it's simply a matter of the right implementation. For me personally, this is an issue which I would like to address after the implementation of a single login system (which will begin once MediaWiki 1.5 has been fully deployed and tested), as that will also allow us to work on a cross-wiki upload system (particularly for transparent uploads to the Commons).--Eloquence* June 30, 2005 06:53 (UTC)

Portal (in India)

I'm neutral on this as I don't have any preferences. But with the infobox taking so much space on the right, the portal image makes it look cramped on top. Raul was the one who removed the link on the India page saying it should not be in the main namespace. I really, really like what you folks have done at Terrorism in Kashmir and what you want to do. Here, quickly, are my comments on the article:

• The article--especially the intro--seems to conflate "militancy" with "terrorism". Even to say that "all militancy in Kashmir is of a terroristic nature" is a valid point of view--one I disagree with, but still a valid one for a person to hold. But that's not what the article says; it just uses the two words almost as synonyms. It starts out doing what I am saying, in Background and the Flashpoint section. Then gets mixed up. In fact, looking more closely, the headings and the actual text seem to be disjointed in this regard. The text is better off, IMHO.
• I have only been able to skim the article, but it seems like it really is a better-than-average description of the militancy in Kashmir. Why not call it that? I am not saying there is no terrorism in Kashmir, but let's point out what, in the whole mix, is terroristic in nature.
• Kudos for a very objective description of the historical background.
• From what I read, the article actually DOESN'T say much about the specific influence of the Pakistani Government--particularly under Gen. Ziaul Haq--in shaping the nature of the militancy and making it more overtly Fundamentalist in nature.
• How can an article whose neutrality and accuracy is disputed become a featured article? That's actually a serious question. Can it?
