License tagging for Image:F5b13040-2d26-48b5-ab98-fae6e7a85a06.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:F5b13040-2d26-48b5-ab98-fae6e7a85a06.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Re: Image of Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope

Just letting you know, if you don't add the necessary information to the image file, it's going to wind up deleted in about a week. You need to explain where you got the file, whether it's copyrighted, and if so, why you feel we have a right to use it. See WP Fair Use policy. Good luck, Kasreyn 01:11, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Look, tell me where you found the image and I'll see what I can do about determining the copyright status. Kasreyn 21:38, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:194bvnbvn.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Unspecified source for Image:F5b13040-2d26-48b5-ab98-fae6e7a85a06.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:F5b13040-2d26-48b5-ab98-fae6e7a85a06.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BrownCow • (how now?) 23:51, 4 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Here are a few things you might want to consider:

  • For an active band's infobox, recent images are generally preferred over older ones, especially if the group's lineup has since changed.
  • Images containing promotional material, such as professionally made group shots of bands and logos are not to be licensed as public domain content. Just because you created the files you do not hold the respective copyright. High resolution files might also violate the fair use doctrine.
  • Doing some edits while being logged in with you user name and others while being logged out (in case of today's edits with the IP 200.83.161.106) could be considered sock puppetry.
  • Remaining civil at all times is mandatory to ensure the productive cooperation of Wikipedia editors. Edit summaries such as the one used here are not very civil.

Have a nice day. - Cyrus XIII 23:56, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:BQAD1.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:BQAD1.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Duplicate images uploaded

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Devildriver.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:DDRI 05.jpg. The copy called Image:DDRI 05.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 06:30, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Images

Hi Nastypogo, seems like you're having a couple of issues getting to grips with copyright policy on Wikipedia. Images that display the likeness of a person must comply with Wikipedia:Fair use. This means that copyrighted images are often unusable, as they can be replaced with free images. Where a copyrighted image is believed to satisfy usage criteria, a detailed rationale as to why must be placed on the image. Please take some time to review copyright policies, as repeated breaches of copyright could lead to your being blocked from editing. Thanks, Deiz talk 01:00, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

Your account has been blocked indefinitely due to copyright concerns, specifically the repeated upload of copyright imagery with invalid licensing information. For general instructions regarding image uploads, please review Wikipedia:Uploading images, as well as Wikipedia:Fromowner if you are indeed the copyright holder. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Dudafukdown.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Dudafukdown.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 15:53, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
