That sounds pretty good (particularly the NOW information). Could you post the rewritten version at Nitche Ward? Sorry for the problems earlier, but we get lots of text dumps and other spam. --Slowking Man 08:53, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Article rewrite edit

I've just trimmed the article down into something a bit closer to NPOV style. Please note that if you continue using promotional language in the article, it is likely to be deleted: the NPOV policy is a basic tenet of Wikipedia, and is not negotiable. -- Karada 09:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I actually agree with you edits. I changed it alittle earlier as well, but I like yours alot better. How do you take the advertisement tag off of the article (unsigned comment added by NS-ward 09:38, 1 March 2007)
I've now removed the advert tag. However, you will need to add supporting cites from reliable sources for the various assertions of notability in the article, so that other people can verify that the information given is correct, or the article may still get deleted as unsourced. Please read the verifiability and reliable sources guidelines for how to do this. -- Karada 09:44, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
The article is now much more encyclopedic in tone, but needs improvement as stated immediately above by Karada. It's definitely on the right track now, though. - Itsfullofstars 09:48, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding links to the article to multiple other articles edit

Unfortunately, it looks a lot like promotional activity, and is likely to fall foul of the advertising policy. Why not let other people add those links? Please read WP:ADVERT for guidance on this. Please work with us on this. -- Karada 09:51, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I thought that I was suppose to add links. the only thing that I was trying to do originally is to add the original woman listed under performance poets, but then I saw the talk link where people were complaining about listed poets, who didn't have an article or an external list to a website - so I added the article to satisfy that complaint. I am one of the biggest fans of The original woman - as well as a close family member. I am very involved in the poetry and spoken word community and the main reason that I decided to add her name is because I saw the list of spoken word artist listed - I know those people on a personal basis - and I felt like the list was very biased - mostly because most of the artists listed were white - and it gives a slanted perspective of what spoken word is. I wanted to add a diversity of spoken word artists to the list. And then suddently all of my postings started to be deleted.

As a fan, and family member, and a member of the spoken word community I feel like it is my responsbility to make sure that real artists are listed in wikepedia, if people like me do make the additions - then who will

So... how do you reccomend that I add her under the list of performance poets - and have an article listed to her so that people don't complain about not having information on these poets

(also, please don't take this offensive.. but who are you guys. Are you just random people on the internet or do you work for wikepedia) Just curious, because you seem to come out of no where. (unsigned comment added by NS-ward 09:59, 1 March 2007)

just checking in to make sure that you are satisfied with the citations and changes made** (unsigned comment added by NS-ward 10:15, 1 March 2007)

Yep, we're just random people off the Internet: some of us are admins, with extra powers to do things like delete articles and block users, but we all work under the same set of policies (see WP:PILLARS).(There is a formal structure backing all this up, in the form of the Wikimedia Foundation, but the day-to-day work is mostly left to volunteers.) Unfortunately, the policies needed to keep Wikipedia from becoming an indiscriminate collection of web pages means that Wikipedia can be a bit jarring for people not familiar with the house style and ground rules -- but we try to be as helpful as we can to newcomers. We all share a passionate desire to create a free encyclopedia, so that everyone in the world can have free access to knowledge: and yes, you can join us! -- Karada 10:20, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
By the way, I've re-added the link in the List of performance poets, but left the other links from articles deleted -- unless the subject is so preeminent in their field that an article is severely compromised by their omission, we don't generally link individual people's articles from topic articles. -- Karada

so how do I join you guys. I am new to this, and are the changes that I made to the article ok... also are the links that I added satisficatory without being spam. (unsigned comment added by NS-ward 10:25, 1 March 2007)

Citations edit

Thanks for adding references: the article is progressing nicely now. However, the references are not currently specific enough to be useful -- could you link to the specific pages in those sites that support the assertions?
Regarding joining us: you've already made the first step, by editing here and talking to other users. After reading WP:PILLARS, why not see if you can improve some articles on topics that interest you? For more information, please see WP:WELCOME, or drop me a line on my talk page, at User talk:Karada. -- Karada 10:31, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

so can I remove the notablilty and the citations tag? (unsigned comment added by NS-ward 10:36, 1 March 2007)

No, please leave them there for now. Eventually, someone will check the article references out, and, if they support the assertions in the article, they'll remove the tag. By the way, a person's own website is not viewed as a reliable source about what they have done, only about what they say about themselves. Could you supply more specific links, please, from external sites, to pages which refer specifically to the information in question? This Google search might be a good place to start. -- Karada 10:54, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've started things off with one link, as an example: http://www.now.org/ was not specific enough as a cite for the 2004 organizing role since it just links to the front page of the NOW website, but http://www.now.org/nnt/winter-2004/woc.html is, because it clearly mentions Ward's name in that context. -- Karada 11:01, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
