We welcome anyone with a legitimate interest in hockey to contribute to Wikipedia. I recommend WP:Five Pillars as a good start for learning how we do things here, along with WP:V, WP:RS, WP:NOR, WP:COPYVIO and WP:BIO. Any corrections and additions that come from reliable sources are appreciated, although you'll find that we're relatively free of hierarchy, and no one editor -- whatever his or her credentials may be -- has the final say over the content of any article. Good fortune!  Ravenswing  18:47, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Welcome, a question and some advice edit

  • Hi User:NHLsource. Welcome.
  • I noticed your posting on another page that as an employee of the NHL you were willing to provide information from the NHL on topics. I've asked a number of questions about the Hart Memorial Trophy and there seems to be precious little public information even about its size, composition, or what it's supposed to represent (a crown of laurel?). If you have such information, please post them on the trophy's talk page at Talk:Hart Memorial Trophy.
  • I also have some advice. Look at the conflict of interest behavioral guideline. Editors with COI are not barred but must be careful. I have edited articles for which I have COI. I strongly advise disclosing this COI on the Talk pages of the articles when you make a contribution, on your User talk:NHLsource page and on the (not-yet-created) User:NHLsource page. This should include the type of employment you have with the organization and whether your employer officially sanctions your edits. You may also wish to provide your real identity for verification.
  • There's a large community of Wikipedians available should you have any questions. Canuckle 20:05, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

No offense intended, but how do we know that you are an employee of the NHL, as you claim? Gmatsuda 20:55, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

My Edits edit

I am here just to provide info if needed and I understand the potential conflict of interest. Tell you what I could do, I could provide potential additions and/or corrections with sources and you guys could make the changes. How does that sound?

Your question about the Hart Memorial Trophy. I can’t seem to find any sources in regards to your questions. This is just an educated guess but the size is about 3 feet tall, composition I’m not sure. The Trophy represents a torch; the ball-like top portion is the fire of the torch. I should be able to get a source for this and will post it here.

I respect your concerns, my edits are not sanctioned by my employer however wikipedia has be discussed and mentioned that some corrections should be made, I volunteered to make these edits on my own time. I am also a huge hockey fan!--NHLsource 04:44, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Especially due to the featured topic drive, there have been many new featured lists promoted concerning NHL awards. Here's the full list of all the 13 FL's promoted since the last newsletter.[1][2]

  1.   Hart Memorial Trophy
  2.   James Norris Memorial Trophy
  3.   Vezina Trophy
  4.   Conn Smythe Trophy
  5.   Frank J. Selke Trophy
  6.   Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
  7.   Lester B. Pearson Award
  8.   Calder Memorial Trophy
  9.   Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy
  10.   King Clancy Memorial Trophy
  11.   Jack Adams Award
  12.   Presidents' Trophy
  13.   List of Calgary Flames players

There have been no new good articles or featured articles. Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has been given A-Class status due to multiple issues raised at FLC.

  1. ^ The last one, List of Calgary Flames players, is the only one not associated with the featured topic drive.
  2. ^ At the time of publishing, there were 5 lists at WP:FLC and 2 lists in the "Holding cell", as there's been an accepted guideline to not put more that 5 trophy lists at the same time to, "compensate for the sanity of the reviewers".

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

Started by User:Scorpion0422, the aim of this drive is to make NHL awards a featured topic. A featured topic is basically a set of very high quality articles (good articles and featured articles/lists). In this case, the topic is NHL awards. Many users have helped, including Scorpion0422, Resolute, Serte, Hasek is the best, Maxim, Croat Canuck, Spike Wilbury, FutureNJGov, and T Rex/Dinosaur puppy. The progress has been very good; there are 12 featured lists promoted, and 2 good articles:

  1.   Hart Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  2.   James Norris Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  3.   Vezina Trophy (Scorpion)
  4.   Conn Smythe Trophy (Serte)
  5.   Frank J. Selke Trophy (FutureNJGov)
  6.   Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  7.   Lester B. Pearson Award (Scorpion)
  8.   Calder Memorial Trophy (Croat Canuck)
  9.   Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
  10.   King Clancy Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
  11.   Jack Adams Award (Maxim)
  12.   Presidents' Trophy (Scorpion)
  13.   Stanley Cup (Earlier collaboration, very many involved)
  14.   Traditions and anecdotes associated with the Stanley Cup (Maxim)

Check the project page if you are interested in helping out. Although it's closer to being done than not, there's still work to be done. The next topic that might be tackled is Stanley Cup, but this remains purely speculative and in discussion.

There has been numerous new recognized content, so much that it's too time-consuming to sift through the "trophy cases" on WP:HOCKEY. Some interesting achievements:

Task forces

By The Pancake of Heaven!

We are working to create a new task force within the WikiProject to deal with topics related to the Pittsburgh Penguins. It hasn't been created yet; but it aims to expand articles based on former and current Pittsburgh Penguins players and articles. Good luck!

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featured article, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY.

Notes
  • More editors are needed to help out with the newsletter. The newsletter creator doesn't have an infinite nor perfect supply of ideas, and thus he might omit some interesting news.
  • Portal:Ice hockey is being considered for featured status.
  • Should Chris Pronger have been suspended for more than eight games for stomping on Ryan Kesler? Vote here!
  • Help Patrik Stefan -- one of the greatest NHL draft busts -- become a GA status article.
