This page was created by Mark Brown and Sergio Ulgiati as a result of realizing that there was considerable controversy regarding the previous posts on emergy. The redirect of the term emergy to the embodied energy page was incorrect, since emergy is not embodied energy, thus we eliminated the redirect. Since this is our first attempt at creating a wikipedia contribution, we welcome advice and comments.Mtbrown8 (talk) 09:16, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Update of Emergy Page

...we have updated the page since removing the redirect as follows: Content of Emergy page was replaced by MT Brown and S Ulgiati according to a mandate received from the International Society for the Advancement of Emergy Research (ISAER) during the most recent Biennial Emergy Conference (16-18 January 2010). MT Brown is the ISAER Historian and S Ulgiati is President-elect 2010. We thank those who displayed their efforts in earlier attempts of setting up an emergy page and other related pages in Wikipedia. Emergy Articles

Good day! I'm just stopping by due to a report at the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard. Another editor saw that your username Mtbrown8 was very close to M.T. Brown which is named in one of the references on the Emergy Synthesis article, and was concerned that there may be a Conflict Of Interest. Looking over your contributions, they don't strike me as being in COI territory, but rather the work of a Subject Matter Expert which can only improve the encyclopedia. I would ask that you read over the COI guidelines (linked in the previous sentence) just to be safe though.

One question I do have, which may have spurred the COI report in the first place, is the user of your Encyclopedia of Energy article in support of the sentence: "Recently the emergy evaluation methodology has been named “Emergy Synthesis”". One interpretation of this is that the term Emergy Synthesis was coined by yourself or Mr Ugliati. If this is the case, can you add additional unrelated citations that show that the term is the accepted term in the field? That would dispel any concerns that the citation is promoting your own work. If this is not the case however, then a simple clarification in the sentence will accomplish the same thing.

A last item I should bring up is in regards to your main User Page. It appears to be a version of the Emergy article, though not the same as the main copy. If you are using this for "sandbox" type edits before adding them to the live article, this is fine, but the normal convention on Wikipedia is that these type of edits be done in a sub-page of your user page, and not on the main one. The main user page is where people go when they click your name in your signature, so having that appear as an article may confuse people. Ideally your main user page will contain some information about you and your on-wiki activities, interest, etc.

A user subpage would be of a form such as User:Mtbrown8/sandbox or similar names after the / character. You can move the page from its current location by clicking the little downward-pointing arrow in the upper right, (in between the Star icon and the search box) and clicking Move. It will then ask you for the destination page and a reason (for the logs). That will move the page, keeping all of the edits and edit history intact, and freeing up the original source page to be re-created.

Your comment on EMERGY page

I just did a quick scan of that article. Only one section seems to include inline references. The other sections need to include inline citations to allow other editors to verify the content. It is simply good practice and leads to better quality articles. The fact that [{WP:OTHERSTUFF|other stuff exists]] is not a reason to not improve other articles. That is because you, as a prominent researcher in this field, have a Conflict of interest on this topic, and because you posted it not as an individual but on behalf of an organisation, which is against our policies here. You were warned about this in 2010, but it wasn't then made sufficiently clear that you are strongly discouraged from making edits to any article about or relating to "emergy". You are considered to be too close to the topic to be able to write neutrally and dispassionately about it.
