Feedback please on my audio contribs: only one to date (2005-12-30): Treaty of Devol. Thanks!Mrdallaway 05:00, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Just put in Dinosaur, a real labor of love. Tried to get it done in time for it being featured on 1st jan 2006. I dropped the list of classifications, hope y'all don't mind none.Mrdallaway 14:33, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks
editThanks for all the help. Why not create a how to? You say one is needed. Start one up. Others will add to it. That's how it works around here. You already know more than I do about what the how to would say! WAS 4.250 16:13, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
I just created a "Help for beginners" subsection at Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia. Perhaps you could add to it. WAS 4.250 16:45, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- You betcha-I was just thinkin the same thing. Thanks fer gettin it started. I'll look at it again tomorrow. Time to take self to bed. Mrdallaway 18:14, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
SpokenWiki Request
editHey, not to impede on your working process with SpokenWiki, but, I put Columbine High School massacre up for request on September 22 and as of today, it's still up for grabs. One person tried to take it, but he stopped editing in October and has not been around since. I wanted to know if maybe, probably, when you're done with your current piece, maybe you can take it up? Thanks. -- PRueda29 / Ptalk29 / Pcontribs29 19:15, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Not me sorry--I actually have a secret list of stuff I'd really like to do, but am always happy to entertain specific requests like yours, as long as they interest me. I do apologize, but I really don't see me doing Columbine. And anyway, wouldn't you rather have a US voice doing that? I think I noticed someone who was considering it, maybe a highschooler.
- Thanks for asking!Mrdallaway 19:27, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, he was interested in doing it, but then he stopped editing and dissapeared, last edit was October 30. At this point, the voice can have a mixed Irish-Indian Accent with a Spanish twist, I wouldn't mind!! -- PRueda29 / Ptalk29 / Pcontribs29 21:23, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Extra Effort
editYour extra effort in the Dinosaur article has astounded me. I have spent the past few weeks getting the article to the main page & this latest addition to the article in way of a spoken file is excellent. I hope you continue to create spoken files on wikipedia. Have a happy new year. Spawn Man 00:51, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
- Way to go!! I couldn't have asked for better encouragement. Thank you, Spawn Man! Makes it all worthwhile.
You have a Happy New Year, too. Best Mrdallaway 04:28, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
Your spoken word version of the Dinosaur article is excellent. It's the best that I have heard, so far, on Wikipedia. Great job! I also hope that you make more spoken articles on Wikipedia. Welcome aboard! --Gary King 00:44, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you Gary, that does make me feel welcome! I hope I can get some more recordings done, too. Best-And Happy New Year! Mrdallaway 04:27, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
VERY good job on Dinosaur. It's by far the best spoken article I've heard so far! I'm going to have to listen to your other recordings!

My complements on your spoken version of Dinosaur. I absolutely agree with the others, it's great.. very clear pronunciation, pleasant voice and intonation. Thanks for your efforts! SuperMidget (talk) 11:57, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Love the Dinosaur recording. Came here just to congratulate you. Good job. Genjix (talk) 19:44, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
on the Treaty of Devol recording
editWonderful!
MrDallaway, You have a lovely accent, well suited to these historical articles. I was especially pleased with your reading's lively intonation and cadence. Production-wise, it sounds like there might be a slight echo, but overall I'd say the quality is top-notch. Ckamaeleon 08:08, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- Why thanks for the positive feedback, much appreciated. And for the note about the echo. The problem is probably the room I'm in-all hard surfaces. For the Planetary habitability article I put the mic on a bathmat--but it doesn't seem to have helped. Maybe I need to buy some carpets. Or maybe it's Audacity's Noise Removal and Amplify effects. I'll keep experimenting. Best Mrdallaway 17:37, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
Great
editJust noticed the spoken article for Planetary habitability and thought that's great; I'm trying to download it now. What process led to it being considered for a spoken article? Anything to do with the fact it will be on tomorrow's front page? Marskell 17:19, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- Crumbs! You woz fast-I've just this second finished taggin' stuff! Process was that as I was adding a UAE tag to my own page (2 days ago), I saw you were a UAEWikipedian too. Then saw you'd written an article with a topic that interests me. So I thought I'd give it a go. Then saw it was up for MainPaging. Well, that did it.... I like doing Mains cos 1) it gives the main article just a tad more oomph 2) it gives wikipedia ditto, and 3) because I can.
- Congratulations, by the way, on a very nice article; the tone is nicely balanced and it is a crisp presentation of fascinating facts to tingle the fancy of the information fetishist. Best Mrdallaway 17:30, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
Planetary habitability
edit- Hi Mrdallaway. I was looking at Image:PlanetaryHabitability.ogg and I couldn't figure out what you meant by "Br Eng RP" in the accent section. It's "British English something." What's the RP mean? You may want to spell it out, as there are probably others who don't know what it means either. ~MDD4696 23:26, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Just wanted to add my kudos regarding your spoken article for Planetary habitability; your delivery was outstanding. cdjaco 22:34, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- Wahoo! Thank you Cdjaco. That feels niiiiice. Best Mrdallaway 06:03, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
Hello Mrdallaway, I used audio clips of your voice in a dance song. It's very silly. Song here. The audio you recorded is public domain, right? --William sharkey 01:19, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Palladio
editI was listening to my first two (can't remember which one it was) to remind myself of the "from wikipedia" bit again and I noticed the same problem. It sounds glassy, even though I'm barely using the setting at all. But Tr. of Devol. sounded top-knotch. Have you tried just not using the effect? You may not need it. For my part, I think I may try to go back and undo it and the re-export the files and re-upload them.Ckamaeleon 14:08, 24 January 2006 (UTC) Talk

- While you're fiddling with your files, tell me if you think the Compression effect is partly to blame. I think THAT might be it for my stuff. Ckamaeleon 15:09, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure where to post this but your spoken articles are top-notch, excellent sound quality, beautiful RP, very nice! Thanks! - anon
hello!
editmy name's yesica, i'm from argentina. Although i use internet quite often and for multiple purposes, it's recently since i've started using wikipedia and i think it's great! I'm trying to learn english but i'm doing this on my own, thus i find very usefull this project of spoken articles, mainly for checking pronunciation, etc. Here i have to say that I really appreciate your contributions to the site, you've got a very elegant accent, and it's helping me a lot. I wish you'd make more of this work.... Also, just wondering.... could you help me to find more articles read in RP english? I've found a list of several articles, but sorted by categories, or users (which is not enterely helpful as i don't have a way to know whether they'd be read in english RP accent) Thanks for your time, just in case (notice i am not a register user) I'll leave you my email address... chesita(at)gmail(dot)com
Cheers.
Palladio
editThis article is really carefully and beautifully read. Your voice suits the subject matter brilliantly, and so the content sounds so authoritative. Your Italian pronunciation is just great too. I'm listening because I'm interested in the subject, but also because I enjoy recording text and I'd like to start making good quality submissions to Wikipedia. Why did you pick this subject? It's been a pleasure, thank you.

Why, thank you, man. Further reply on your talk page. Mrdallaway 15:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Dinosaur spoken word verson
editHi there, thanks for contributing a spoken word version of the Dinosaur article. I was just checking to see whether you might be willing to re-record the present version of the article? Things have changed substantially since your 2005-12-30 recording. Killdevil 13:58, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
