Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 10:27, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hey Alexf, thanks for the explanation but I am still a bit confused. I have read Wikipedia's policy on external links and I do understand the no-follow types of links. The blog I have listed does not promote any product. It is simply the work of the User Page I have created. It is not an article so I don't really understand what the problem is with identifying what the official website of the user (about whom the user page is). Could you please further clarify this? Many Thanks
Your post to La Rampa included a link to your own site. Also your userpage contained a link directing users to your site. That is spam and not allowed, and in the article, it is a link to a non-RS site, in violation of EL. If you have any questions about how Wikipedia works, please ask at the Tea House where friendly folks are in stand-by to answer your WP questions. Please remember to sign your posts in Talk with four tildes at the end. -- Alexf(talk) 13:05, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:MrWorldling

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:MrWorldling, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Kb03 (talk) 13:13, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Contested deletion

edit

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because I am not promoting any products. It was merely an article objectively depicting LA Rampa in Cuba.I have removed the link in good faith, although I disagree with the overly aggressive action of the admins

With all respect I consider your actions and rationale to be ridiculous. Just because I have a blog where I do not sell anything, and where I only objectively describe places I've seen, I've been tagged as SPAM. There are literally thousands of Wiki pages pointing to big companies that do the exact same thing as I do on a massive scale and also promote and sell products. I consider your actions very hypocritical, elitist and overly aggressive since you did not even check your facts (aka the website in question) before accusing me of spam. As i previously mentioned, I have removed the links in good faith. If you want to delete my userpage because I've expressed my opinion about your policy and conduct then go for it. Also thanks to Alexf for providing friendly advice and explanation, Kb03 should probably work on his cognitive and communication skills

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:14, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

@RHaworth: Hi, thanks for the explanation. I do understand the reason of the ban but (apologies, I am a new user) I am still a bit confused because when I clicked on your profile you have several links pointing to personal blogs. So the messages I am getting are quite mixed. Can I also do self promotion after becoming a Wikipedia editor? Or do you have a special status because of other reasons? I would be interested to know more so in the future I don't make the same mistakes. KevinRawlsW2013 (talk) 14:01, 14 March 2019 (UTC) @RHaworth: Hi there, could you please review my unblock request? Also clarify some bits on the above question. Thanks KevinRawlsW2013 (talk) 09:13, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I have understood the reason why you have blocked me and as I stated before (if anyone even bothered reading my replies, I have deleted all the links you deemed to be spam). I declare in good faith that I shall continue to make contributions completely non-related to my website and anything I shall edit or contribute to will not contain a link to my website. Today was the first day I've ever made contributions and you can see that while I was warned for two of them, the other ones have been done in accordance with your regulations. I have an extensive knowledge and would like to make further contributions about cities, cultural aspects, language and travel. I deem it unfair you rushed to delete and block me without even giving me a change to explain myself or try to understand the reasons I was blocked for.

Accept reason:

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

to be honest I would prefer to keep this current username but if I am not allowed to, then please change it to the mentioned one

Decline reason:

Username issue resolved; open request still pending. 331dot (talk) 11:24, 15 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

@331dot:Thanks a lot mate, can my unblock request also be reviewed please? KevinRawlsW2013 (talk) 11:20, 15 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please read about the conflict of interest policy; if you get income or any sort of compensation for working with the website, you must also read about the paid editing policy. Will you be able to make edits that are not related to your conflict of interest? 331dot (talk) 11:32, 15 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

@331dot: Hi there. I can confirm that I shall make edits without a pursuit of any interests. Even the website I was banned for is not for profit and does not sell or promote any products. However, since I have already been banned for referencing it, I shall refrain from citing it in the future, and only cite WIKI reliable sources, as per its guidelines. I intend to bring a positive change to Wikipedia and enhance it's information catalogue, and in this endeavour I shall not be pursuing any financial or promotional goals . Thanks

@331dot: Can my unblock request be reviewed please? Many thanks

@Alexf: Hi Alex, could my unblock request be reviewed please? Thanks KevinRawlsW2013 (talk) 09:15, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Unblock requests go in a queue reviewed by volunteers in their free time, so please be patient. Pinging multiple admins dont make it faster. Victor Schmidt (talk) 10:28, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Victor Schmidt: OK Sorry, I'm just eager to get back to editing articles! :D KevinRawlsW2013 (talk) 14:07, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
