User talk:Montchav/Don't worry about writing essays

In practice, the best known of them (such as ILIKEIT) do often get quoted as guidelines, or sometimes as policy. Looked at favorably, it is a piece of boilerplate to use, instead of writing out the argument on one's own. But the distinction has gotten weak, and perhaps there should be a policy that they remain in userspace, and that they need to be debated & some sort of agreement reached if they are to be in WP space.DGG 22:34, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Ignore all rules (from April 2002). IIRC IAR predates 2002, and was one of wikipedia's earliest "rules to consider".So it did not start out as an essay.

At some point in time, certain people who thought that wikipedia is a nomic tried putting an essay tag on top of the page, this didn't quite work out. ;-) --Kim Bruning (talk) 21:21, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

In fact, checking back, {{essay}} was not created 'till 1 january 2006, and all the examples you provide predate that by at least 2-3 years. I don't think this text is correct at all! --Kim Bruning (talk) 21:24, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
