Could you update this template for spring? I would, but I do not have the template editor right. Levdr1lp / talk 12:34, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Done — did the AM version as well. Mlaffs (talk) 13:46, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, it wouldn't make much sense doing one band and not the other (definite "duh" on my part). Thanks! Levdr1lp / talk 21:30, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

If you have time, could you look at (and add to) a recent stub which I started. Thanks! User:Rudy2alan (talk)

Translator on WWFD

Hi Mlaffs,

I'm reaching out to you to ask your opinion on what is becoming a dispute between me and User:Neutralhomer. At issue is a translator on the WWFD page. I discovered on the FCC website that translator W252DC does not relay WWFD, but rather WTOP-FM (and actually, WTOP-FM-HD3). I moved the translator to the WTOP-FM page, added a few words about it in the WWFD summary section, and explained my reasoning in my edit summaries on both pages for doing so. Shortly thereafter, User:Xenon54 reverted my edits, with the reasoning that they would only "confuse the average reader". I re-did my edits again, and explained in my edit summaries that the translator is relaying WTOP-FM per FCC data. Shortly after that, User:Neutralhomer reverted my edits again, restoring the translator to the WWFD page, and citing 2 sources, neither of which clearly state that the translator is simulcasting WWFD--in fact, both of them clearly state the parent station is WTOP-FM.

It is true that the translator in question does air the same programming as WWFD, and I think that's why these editors are insisting on placing it on WWFD's page (note that Neutralhomer left his edit summaries on WWFD blank). My position is that the programming on the translator is immaterial, and that placing it on the WWFD page violates Wikipedia's core tenant of verifiability. I also don’t agree with removing it from the WTOP-FM page, but since Wikipedia is not intended to be a compendium of all human knowledge, I’m ok with leaving it off.

I wanted to ask for your opinion as an admin about this before I start down the path of dispute resolution. If you decide that the translator should remain on the WWFD page, I'll respect your opinion and take no further action. Thank you for taking the time to read this and comment.

Probably need a little more time to dig into it, but here's what I see so far:
  • There's no question from the FCC records that W252DC rebroadcasts WTOP-FM-HD3, with the minor modification filing granted on January 28th being explicit about that
  • From the WWFD article, it certainly appears that The Gamut programming was originated on WTOP-FM-HD3, and was then simulcast on the other current outlets from there. As a result, it seems like there's not nearly enough of that content in the WTOP-FM article; much of what's in the WWFD article should be reproduced there
  • That being said, I don't live in the area, but it seems likely to me that most listeners would associate the programming with WWFD. That station also carries the recent notoriety among people most interested in this topic area of being the only current permitted test for all-digital AM. I suspect that's the genesis of Xenon54's comment and why both they and Neutralhomer have taken their respective positions.
So, I don't claim to have the wisdom of Solomon or anything, but here's what I'd do. First, make sure there's more about the programming and its history on the WTOP-FM page. Second, make sure it's clear in the translator sections of both WTOP-FM and WWFD that W252DC rebroadcasts WTOP-FM-HD3. Third, if you do both those things, I'm not sure it matters all that much where the W252DC redirect goes. Should it be to WTOP-FM? Probably. Is that where I'd point it if I was the one editing? Probably. But I absolutely see why some might point it to WWFD. Most importantly, I think it's likely that all three of you are trying to get the right result in your own ways, and that as long as nobody has been uncivil so far, this probably isn't a hill worth dying over.
Full disclosure — I've interacted with Neutralhomer quite a bit over the years. I think it's important that you're aware of that so that you can judge my opinions in context, and also to be clear for you that I don't think it'd be appropriate for me to take any administrative action in this situation were it necessary. Mlaffs (talk) 22:16, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
First off, there is no dispute with Pageographer and I. I noticed the goings on between Xenon54 and Pageographer on my watchlist. Pageographer asked for sources and I provided them. I had no horse in the race and I had no interaction with Pageographer or Xenon54 prior to this regarding the issue. So, to say there was a dispute between Pageographer and myself is blatantly false. I just added sources to a page.
As I always have, I will accept any changes you (Mlaffs) make to the page and the outcome of this discussion. As I said above, I have no horse in this race and I personally don't care one way or the other on the outcome. - NeutralhomerTalk • 03:08 on April 21, 2019 (UTC)
Thank you Mlaffs for your feedback and suggestions. I appreciate it. While I still think that W252DC does not belong on the WWFD page, I can understand why other editors would place it there since it broadcasts the same programming as WWFD. There is a note in the Translators table stating that W252DC is simulcasting WTOP-FM-HD3 (along with a couple of inline cites), so your suggestion to do that has been done. I agree with you that more content about The Gamut needs to be added to the WTOP-FM page since that's where the programming originates. Pageographer (talk) 07:00, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

W268CO

Why did you hide ("comment out") this translator's categories? Genuinely curious. I'm sure there's a good reason. Levdr1lp / talk 21:12, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

I don't remember who nailed me on it, or when, or what the policy they pointed me to was, but you're apparently not supposed to categorize redirects. I'm responsible for a tonne of those on translators so, except for where it feels like they're defining, if I trip across them again, I'll comment them out. I figure it's better than removing them because, if the policy changes or the redirect grows into a standalone article, they're at least available. Mlaffs (talk) 23:34, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
