Speedy deletion nomination of User:MichellePetersen3 edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:MichellePetersen3, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi again. There seems to be a misunderstanding here: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a social networking site. So ads or (with a few small exceptions) writing about yourself is generally frowned upon. You can read more at "What Wikipedia is not". Cheers. Hairhorn (talk) 16:20, 18 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Your user page edit

Hi, Michelle, I'm sorry, but it's actually not okay to post an ad for your services. It's nothing personal--as Hairhorn said above, Wikipedia just isn't a place for ads. The usual page we'd link to here is WP:PROMOTION, but the gist is that Wikipedia is intended to be an encyclopedia that covers things neutrally, and ads are inherently non-neutral (since they are designed to get people to buy the product or service they're selling). This is true even for user pages, which aren't real articles. As such, I've deleted the page per Hairhorn's request.

It's an honest (and common) mistake to make, though, so people won't hold it against you, now that you know. If you'd like to help anyway, there's always plenty to do in building the encyclopedia (WP:MED is the hub for articles related to medicine, for example), and we'd welcome your help! But if not, that's okay too, of course; we're all volunteers here anyway. Either way, I'm sorry for your rough introduction to Wikipedia; such things happen more often that I'd like, but it's how it goes, I guess. Regardless, welcome, and good luck!
