Kurdish-Language education
editHallo....
- Did you hear that Turkey plans to build a dam ("Ilisu") in Kurdish regions? There was something on the BBC about the town that it will submerge, having some nice old ruins with fine Roman mosaics. Well, Hasankeyf is not the only town, I think, that will suffer, but you can imagine. They've been meaning for a long time to improve things around there. British and Italian(?) companies, that took part in the project before, pulled out, and so Turkey intends to go for it alone, such as a hydroelectric project on the Euphrates is.
- Do you think Turkey, having decided to teach in Kurdish (as you probably know), is teaching it in Roman or Arabic Script? I think Roman, but...let me know if you find out something, ok?
- Love,

- Hallo...
- How do you archive things?

Hello. I recently joined the Association of Member's Advocates and came across the page relating to the Coordinator since I had seen the message asking new members to inform them. As there is no current Coordiantor, I wondered if I could stand for the position providing it is open to any member of AMA to apply. I have therefore left a note on the Wikipedia:AMA Coordinator page and will await any further comments. If I am not wanted then that is fine and I will accept that but I would like to take the position if consensus is reached. I have left you this message as I saw you had been one of the active users in developing the criteria for a new Coordinator and so you seemed like the best person to contact. Wikiwoohoo 23:03, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you, I have contacted The Thadman as you suggested regarding the position, as well as informing him of my availability to take cases. Wikiwoohoo 23:24, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Editing for hire leads to intervention in Signpost
editGregory Kohs offers to edit for money, is blocked by Jimbo, makes a deal with Jimbo, Jimbo oks him not being blocked on that basis. You left out that he now says:
- "I initially agreed to this compromise. However, I am now concerned about several problems with that arrangement. Before deciding exactly what to do, I want to see what the community thinks, and what the ArbCom thinks. I've heard several respected admins say that Jimbo is wrong on this call. And, most importantly, I am not going to spend more time and money redesigning my business under a new model, based on an unofficial, informal agreement that Wales could just retract at any time."
meaning he no longer holds himself to his agreement with Jimbo and is using his unblocked status to try to renegotiate the deal on a page he says:
- "I reserve the right to delete any comments"
when the proper place for a policy proposal is elsewhere. Before he began this renegotiation on his user talk page Wikipedia talk:Conflicts of interest had already been created for just this purpose. His behavior leads a bad taste in my mouth and your article should at least mention Wikipedia talk:Conflicts of interest (which I did not create). WAS 4.250 07:02, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your thoughtful reply. It's good to see that you are able to place yourself in his shoes better than I was able to. There is also a cultural difference between the "everything is always negotiatable" POV and the "a deal is a deal" POV. A recent thing on TV that I saw said that in the Middle East, after a long negotiation in which both sides agree to a deal and shake hands on it, a typical westerner feels like there is a done deal while the middle easterner feels that the real negotiations have just begun. Policy on articles about Corporations
editHello, Michael. I contribute to the English and Spanish WK's every so often. Following a (female) friend's special request, a few months ago I wrote a new article on a corporation (where she is an employee) in the Spanish WK. The article was clean, informative, neutral, and to the point. Then came this specimen (user Cinabrium) who calls himself an Admin (Spanish Wikipedia: Admin = "Bibliotecario") and simply deleted my article right away, with no preliminaries, no warnings, and with utter contempt for my very civil post in his talk page asking for an explanation / requesting a reconsideration. His motive: he accused the article of being an "advertisement", which it was not. In my argument I mentioned that Microsoft and many other corporations have extensive articles, and no one dares to delete them. What should I do? What is the exact policy on articles about Corporations? Regards, --AVM 01:58, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Bofill sisters' AfD's
edit"Smacks of stalking" is an interesting and provocative phrase, lawyerly yet inexact and inept. Are you justly accusing me of stalking, or are you saying that in your expert, professional opinion that the articles I wrote are, in fact, *possibly* stalking under a statute in a jurisdiction in the United States? You say you are a lawyer. If so, I'd like your bar licence numbers in the states in which you practise. You've already given out your "real name." Quite obviously, criminal law is not your thing. Present your evidence, or withdraw your accusation. Really, I insist. If you would like to try to delete both articles according to existing Wikipedia policy, I don't mind, but if you are going to accuse me of a crime, you really should back it up with hard evidence. I don't see how providing fair and even flattering articles about two sisters who are widely and commonly known to greatly desire public recognition is "stalking." That would require unwanted and uninitiated contact with the threat of physical harm, would it not? I have no intention of contacting either or harming either. I suspect you have an agenda. Were you contacted by either of the Bofill sisters? I fully expect an answer. If I don't get one, I will assume that you are acting as their agent. Billy Blythe 09:08, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I get it now. You're a foundation lawyer who has been called to act as hatchetman. Too bad for Daniel Brandt that he doesn't have such influence. Billy Blythe 09:23, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi. User:Ramsquire added some information from a court document available at Ars Technica. I raised two objections at his talk page, concerning the acceptability of the source and the notability of the event. Both seem to be grey areas, and I was wondering if you could weigh in, and, depending on what you think, explain the proper citations required. Thanx! --Maxamegalon2000 00:41, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Please provide accountability information
editI want to know what exactly are the motives behind your AfD's of the Bofill sisters. It's not a simple desire to clean Wikipedia, because I haven't seen your mug at Afd in many a while. Explain to me, and I may understand. I'm a reasonable bloke. If there is a means by which I can get reasonable questions from Wikimedia, please let me know, since you seem to be a de facto employee. Billy Blythe 20:50, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
A favor, please
editI wrote an article called Suppression of evidence. One of my references offered five exceptions as to why some illegally obtained evidence may be allowed into court. I interpreted these as best I could and listed my interpretations in the article in a bullted format. I do not know how good my understanding was, so please I would appreciate it if you took a look at page two of my reference here Thank you for your help in interpreting this, I am an 11 year old kid with a big vocabulary, but I realise I propably didn't have a full understanding of the concept. Signpost thanks
editHi there. I only realised recently (from the latest Signpost) that you had retired as editor in August 2005, and recently left the Signpost indefinitely. I'd like to just briefly say how much I appreciate that you set the whole Signpost thing going. Thanks! Carcharoth 16:28, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Hi
editHi, I write for the Signpost. I didn't know you had retired from the Signpost indefinitely? Is this true? Why did you retire? Your such a good editor and you provide the Signpost with tons of interesting stories. Streamwater 22:25, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- Why did Ral315 comment you had left in Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2006-08-28/From the editor? I'm writing BRION now, as I seem to be the only one on the staff to know how to get BRION info. I thought you had left, as you didn't come back until the 14th. We've missed you Michael! Thank you for starting the Signpost. Streamwater 23:08, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- After Rob Church left last July, there was no BRION reports until mid August. I became a user earlier in September and I've had direct contact with Rob Church, and Brion Vibber who I've been getting sources from. I also use bugzilla and svn. ForestH2 started it; but he left, because of some spam link thing. I'm currently writing an article about a vandal stir which you can read at User:Streamwater/Sandbox. Thanks. Tallahassee History/Talk
editJust curious why you'd copy the entire (almost entire) History of Tallahassee and make it a talk page. Not criticizing at all... just curious. I had it in the sandbox earlier to have an area for large additions.

- OK, I thought I had removed it from the sandbox after making it an article.

editI suppose so; though I'm sure there are still a lot of sockpuppets left to take care of (I really get the feeling that a few users may also be involved, though I have no proof). Ral315 (talk) 23:21, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Would you mind co-licensing this as Creative Commons, so that it can be republished on Wikinews? Pretty please? -- Zanimum 18:00, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry for not responding earlier, I haven't been available to edit for a few days. I don't know if there's still a desire to do this given the time that has passed, but I'm certainly willing to allow the story to be published under the Creative Commons license used for Wikinews. --Michael Snow 19:01, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

A humble request for your opinion
editHello! I hope you are feeling fine. Recently, you expressed an oppose opinion with regards to my RfA. I would like to thank your feedback on this but I need another critical feedback from you. If you could spare a few minutes to voice any concerns you may be having with regards to my contributions to this project since my last RfA on this page, I would be most grateful. Once again, thank you for your time! --Siva1979Talk to me 05:53, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Have admins been told to give compliments?
editI have never before received a "good job" message, and now I have gotten two in a row! What has changed? Ksnow 15:27, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Ksnow
It sounds like you're kinda busy with other things, but if you've got some time, it would be nice if you could stop by and explain the policy on gaming sites as sources (again). It was just archived, but there was a bit of a discussion, and though most people are being reasonable, it would help if you could reiterate the situation. Perhaps there should be a subpage somewhere that explains everything in one place so that I don't have to advise editors to read essentially all the discussions from March to get the gist of what's going on. --Maxamegalon2000 19:27, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Broken link in template
editThe link in the Nobel Prize in Physics Laureates for Karl Alexander Müller is broken. I assume this is because they have his name as Karl Alex Müller, or something like that. Since I don't know where to find the table for this, could you fix it? Ksnow 16:16, 5 November 2006 (UTC)Ksnow
Nash
editI'm integrating some of the content from the Signpost's April 2006 article on Jay Robert Nash into the article on the man himself; in particular, the comments from Library Journal and Journal of American History, and the quote from Jimbo, and the statement that Nash has repeatedly made claims about copyright traps. We'll need sources on all of those, please. DS 18:10, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Volunteering to write BRION
editI guess I wouldn't mind writing BRION for future weeks. Just tell me how to set it up or whatever. (I'm a dev, not that you really need to be to write it.) Commons
editGo ahead and take that, thanks. Depending on how much time you have, you could write a short piece on it and combine it into News and notes, or a full-fledged article. I'm doing Features and admins, News and notes, and then a quick piece on the elections. Ral315 (talk) 03:41, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
BRION
editShoot, you're right. I guess I'll do a double issue next week; I've already got the Signpost on about 300 talk pages :)
On another note, I expanded your article on the board meeting a bit; look it over and correct any things I might have screwed up. Ideally we could have perhaps split that into another full article with my additions, but Greg didn't tell me about the other board news until after I started publishing. Ral315 (talk) 05:57, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- That's fine. As far as WikiWorld goes, I'd consider running it as a weekly cartoon. It'd be something different, if nothing else, and might generate some interest. Perhaps we should look into running a small story on Mr. Williams to go along with the first cartoon next week? Ral315 (talk) 06:13, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
