Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

  Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Mechabot5", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because of WP:MISLEADNAME: "Usernames that could be easily misunderstood to refer to a "bot" (which is used to identify bot accounts) or a "script" (which alludes to automated editing processes), unless the account is of that type". If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because your username, Mechabot5, does not comply with Wikipedia's username policy. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy, which is summarized here.
Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If your username is not in violation of Wikipedia's username policy, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

However, your demand that members of LGBTQ communities recuse themselves from the SBI article and talkpage is utterly unacceptable. The discussion concerning your behavior remains open at ANI. Acroterion (talk) 00:34, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Acroterion, please standby for my response to "Trade" after my username has been corrected. It appears the editor "Trade" deceitfully misquoted me in attempt to paint my partial comment as discrimination against the LGBT community. As a member of that community, it only further asserts the issues currently occurring on the SBI talk page and the immediate need for administrator oversight. Mechabot5 (talk) 01:39, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just remember to post the response on the Administrator's Noticeboard, not your user talk page. --Trade (talk) 02:02, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
"Deceitfully"? You're not improving your position. The necessary administrator oversight I am seeing involves you. I'm not addressing the username and block without an appropriate response from you. I can read what you wrote at Talk:SBI too. Acroterion (talk) 02:52, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
You haven't even been an editor for 24 hours and you are already blocked, because of your username, been brought to ANI. There are editors who've been editing for years who haven't been brought to a noticeboard. This doesn't bode well for your longevity as an editor here. You can't go around making demands of other editors. You are a new editor and you need to learn the policies, guidelines and norms for this platform before you go around demanding other editors recuse themselves from discussions. Most editors do not post identifying information about themselves on their User pages so we have no idea who they are. Discussions are open to everyone to participate in as long as there aren't editing restrictions. Liz Read! Talk! 03:00, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have renamed you, but the other issue above needs to be resolved before unblocking. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 03:40, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because it appears that you are not here to build an encyclopedia.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Black Kite (talk) 22:23, 25 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
