Run4charity

Hello Mdoher1,

It seems to me that an article you worked on, Run4charity, may be copied from http://www.run4charity.net/. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.

It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.

Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 11:10, 5 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Run4charity

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Run4charity, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Theroadislong (talk) 11:31, 5 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mdoher1. I have deleted Run4charity because it appeared to copy text from www.run4charity.net/. Despite your claims on the talk page and in the article, the page www.run4charity.net/ is listed as being copyrighted by General Application Software Limited, 2012. If you own the copyright to the text or can show that it has in fact been released under a CC-BY-SA licence, please follow the instructions at Donating copyrighted materials - unfortunately, without a visible notice on the source website or other demonstration of free licensing, we cannot accept text copied from other sites. You may like to read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, since anyone can create an account and claim to be anyone they like, we cannot accept the unsubstantiated word of an anonymous editor. However, I think it only fair to tell you that, in my experience, it is almost never worth the time and effort it takes to go through the process of donating copyright, as virtually always, the content copied from another web site is unsuitable for other reasons, such as being promotional.

You also need to be aware that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information about anything. If a subject does not satisfy Wikipedia's notability criteria then it is likely to be deleted, no matter whether there are other problems such as copyright. Rewriting may remove copyright issues, promotion issues, etc, but no amount of rewriting an article will change how notable the subject the article is about is.
