Speedy deletion nomination of Marine Software Limited

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Marine Software Limited requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. UtherSRG (talk) 14:09, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Help

{{helpme}} How can I ensure that Marine Software Limited doesn't get deleted as there are articles about other companies both in the UK and US (Such as Mariner Software). I would like assistance on creating a factual entry for Marine Software Limited as it has been providing software to the marine industry for 20 years Marsoft (talk) 15:17, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

The existence of other bad articles doesn't make a good argument for adding more; see WP:OTHERSTUFF.
Articles have to meet notability guidelines - it's all about having good "reliable sources" - see WP:VRS and WP:CORP.
If you have connections with the company, at all, then please be very careful about conflict of interest - see the business FAQ.
I suggest editing some other articles for a while - to get the hang of Wikipedia. And perhaps, later, try making a user-space draft. See WP:FIRST.  Chzz  ►  15:36, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

See my comments at the article (I did not delete it immediately, for there's some indication of importance), particularly our policy [[WP:NOT DIRECTORY| Additionally, you must choose another user name; we have a rule that only individuals can edit, and that the user name cannot indicate the name of an organization, in order to avoid the appearance that they control the page. On the new page, declare your affiliation. And be careful about WP:Conflict of Interest !

And I echo what Chzz said above: we are in considerable need of articles on the business side of the shipping industry, and any help you can give us on general articles will be greatly appreciated. You have a real contribution to make, if you care to do so. DGG ( talk ) 20:00, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

DGG and Chzz- Many thanks for your help and guidanace. I have created User:R03e7t2011 and will place a notice of affiliation on that page. I have made contributions to Planned Maintenance Systems and wonder if I should move the Marine specific sections over to Marine Planned Maintenance (which I have created an placed a redirect to Planned Maintenance Systems as the requirements are different from shore based industry (I placed in the information about IACS and DNV). Also should I no delete/retire this user? Marsoft (talk) 10:40, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

You should read Wikipedia:Notability before spending any more time promoting your company. If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article or stand-alone list. There is no evidence so far that your company meets these requirements. RegardsTeapotgeorgeTalk 11:19, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Move page contents?

I have created a new personal user User:R03e7t2011 and declared affiliation to Marine Software Limited. Shall I move the contents of this talk page over to my new personal user and continue this talk conversation there? Marsoft (talk) 13:44, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
