I have a question, I have been using Wikipedia since 4 years. I once edited an article on Emperor Aurangzeb of Mughal Empire.

I used the information from a book about Mughal History that I have and I even wrote the name of the book at the end of the article from which I had taken the text, but the next day the entire material that I had wrote was removed and I was so annoyed, because I took a while to write me.

So can you please let me know why did that happen?

Hi Marek69, thank you very much for your welcome and the cookies! I'm a user in the German Wikipedia for about one and a half year and wrote some articles there, as you can see on my user page. Until now I only added some photos to articles in the English Wikipedia and I hope to do this in the future. We are going to Southern England in a few days (if there is no ash cloud over London!) and I think we'll bring back nice photos of many the famous gardens there, because it is a garden tour. Hi Marek69, yes, our time in UK was wonderful; the weather from 28°C to 14°C with rain. No problem, because it was only one day in Hidcote and Rousham. We took about 2000 photos (but naturally only a few hundred will remain in the computer). I think we have some fine pictures for Commons and for the garden articles. As we have rhododendren in our garden too, I was surprised about the huge plants there. But Munich is not Sheffield Park, Stourhead or Petworth, of course. We also saw Stonehenge for the first time (along with hundreds of tourists); very impressive of course, and bought a photo of the comet Hale-Bopp right over Stonehenge. Thank you for my first official welcome! I got a 'thank you' on my unregistered user talk from Wikipelli, but that was the first welcome on my user page! I'm known on Wikipedia! Well, as a matter of fact, I do have a question. About userboxes. I noticed you didn't have any, but it seems like you know a thing or two about Wikipedia. I tried to put custom userboxes as we do on TMBW, but I soon discovered that doesn't work. So is their a list of userboxes (besides the "Wikipedia bable)? International relations

I noticed that you have introduced a supersection title to some cities, "International relations." Right now there is no approved outline that contains that section. That may be unimportant. What is important is that no one gets the idea that cities conduct International relations. Nations do. Cities do not, however much they may aid their national governments in doing so.

Also, "sister cities" are usually termed "twin towns" outside of the US. I don't know why the US title needs to be used jointly with the more common one. In either case, this is the approved subsection title, as before. Thanks. Student7 (talk) 17:59, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

I will take your comments on board. However, there are many different editors with different opinions on this subject and these titles frequently change. As far as I can tell there as yet is no standard section title.

Please let me know if I am mistaken here, as I for one would like a standard name introduced.

Regarding the title 'Twin towns and sister cities', the two concepts are very similar, but still distinct, with histories on separate continents, as can be read in the 'Twin towns and sister cities' article and its corresponding talk page & archives.

Also, many of the country lists on this subject (outside the US, that is) seem to follow the naming convention of List of twin towns and sister cities in... Albania, Argentina, Austria etc.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the subject. I hope we can reach a solution of a standard naming convention in this area.

Hello Marek69; Thank you for your welcoming note and the offer for help. I admire people that do all this great work for the pure joy of it. Were it not for my web-wizard son, I wouldn't even manage to upload a picture of mine! Clearly I do need help; but I am getting the hang of it slowly. I have one maing article in Wiki (in five languages) and, recently, I made contributions to others. I truly enjoy this challenge of writing for the Wiki. I have been a researcher for over 20 years and it pleases me to write down what I know to be the latest jem of knowledge.

As for immediate help, I am not sure if my Fgrammen (my log on ID) signature on the edit page is sufficient or it needs to be changed. Please let me know.

Spirometry

Hi Mareck,

I was the first to put up an example of a spirometer printout. It took quite a lot of effort to get the correct printout to size and put it on the page. The printout is according to ATS requirements and is user friendly and detailed. I see the user Tristaess deleted the printout and put their your own (BTL) printout in its place. There is no reason why that printout should be better or replace the printout I put up. They did not even bother to make their own formatting, merely replacing mine and using my layout.

I also see Tristaess is advertising BTL holter and equipment on Wikipedia.

I think it is unethical for Tristaessu to delete other people's examples that are quite valid and replace them with their own advertising.

Let us compromise as follows: 1. Whoever gets to a page first and posts an example that is valid, should have the right to have their example as the top one. 2. The person who gets to the page after the first one has the right to put their example up as well, but make it below the first.

People could easily delete his holter examples and we could go on and on replacing each other's examples. This would be destructive. Please lets reach a compromise.

Perhaps he should leave spirometry alone, and I leave Holter monitors alone (where I could add my own examples). Leave the AME printout on the spirometry page and I'll let the blue flowtube remain on the spirometery page as well.

Please lets compromise on this. What could I do?

Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up

Thanks very much to all who helped with the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive. We were very close to meeting our target of 7,500 articles remaining in the backlog. Our most shining success is the incredible reduction in the backlog of Special Requests. That part of the project saw a drop from 62 articles in the queue, some dating back to February of 2009, down to a stunning THREE, all of which were being edited at the close of the drive. The Special Requests page will now be a great resource for people looking to tidy up their article in advance of a GA or FA nomination, instead of a place where articles go to die. Moving forward GOCE backlog elimination drive chart up to 31 May The drive has not only forced a great leap forward in reducing the backlog. It has helped promote the Guild, and led to a greater awareness of the level of vigilance required to keep the backlog manageable. Ideas such as charts, graphs, and barnstars helped motivate editors, and meeting other users helped quell any feelings gnomish editors may have had in the past that they were toiling all alone. Keep up the good work people!! Stats Almost everyone who participated will receive a barnstar. We will be handing these out over the next week or so. Five people will receive the highest award for word count (80,000 or more), the Most Excellent Order of the Caretaker's Star: Bullock, Diannaa, NielsenGW, S Masters, and Torchiest. Neutral point of view (NPOV) is a fundamental Wikimedia principle and a cornerstone of Wikipedia. All Wikipedia articles and other encyclopedic content must be written from a neutral point of view, representing fairly, proportionately, and as far as possible without bias, all significant views that have been published by reliable sources. This is non-negotiable and expected of all articles and all editors.

Hello. I am not attacking anyone innocent but German writers who lay claims for 1/3 of Poland for Germany. In fact it is about 2/5 of Germany {north-eastern} that is former Western Slavic land {the Velettis,the Obodrites}.Poles are a Western Slavic Nation.Yet no Pole lays claims to Germany!! When will the Germans gracefully accept Poland's western border on the Odra and Nysa Łużycka rivers? When? I am a Polish nationalist and I will always hate German cheauvinists! What's outrageous is that Wikipedia has become Bash-the-Pole-pedia (alternative name could be:Serve-the-German-pedia).On basically every Poland-related topic there are overt but very cleverly-made manipulations and lies that are to diminish/erase Polish influence and enlarge German influence in contemporary and past Polish territory.

Ps.If you still stick to your point of view then I challenge you to debate me instead of censorship.

Colour usage in display of changes

Hello and thanks for your message! I seldom edit Wikipedia; mostly I correct grammar, but occasionally I correct or add facts. I have had 5 or 6 identities - I lose my password after a year or so of not making changes and then I see a new error so I make up a new ID. I think I was CleverHans at one point. Welcome to meld these identities if you like but please let me keep my present ID and password - Wikipedia seems to hang onto them better now, or it lets me do so.

Since you are an editor, perhaps you know how to contact Jimmie Wales or a subordinate to correct the problem - namely that dark red tends to look black as seen by colour-blind persons, so you guys might use blue or a very bright orange-red to show changes in version comparisons. in the course of the Wikipedia Usability Initiative, we've primarily focused on general barriers to entry for potential new editors, but we've recently begun an ongoing dialog around accessibility issues, in large part thanks to the efforts of Maria (user Lecartia), an accessibility expert and German Wikipedia volunteer. Maria has created an initial hub page for a volunteer-driven accessibility initiative. On the WMF side of things, we'll try to make sure that we have at least some allocated engineering capacity to address these issues.

Finding a balance between solutions that are accessible without getting in the way of average users can be a bit tricky, and this is no exception. Making easy widgets for font and color configuration available may be the best solution. The existing mechanism of user stylesheets may provide an interim solution for anyone affected, and could be used by interested and capable volunteers to prototype alternative stylesheets, perhaps for different types of color blindness.--Eloquence* 00:46, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Amman - Quality of Life section removed

Hi Marek,

I wonder if you could just check that the first edit I have made is ok? I removed a whole section from the Amman article (entitled "Quality of Life"). Information was included that was supposed to be from Mercer's (Human Resource Consulting firm) Quality of Living Reports - the information was NOT the same as in the reports and in any case, I believe permission from Mercer would be necessary to publish this information (the reports are not free).

If you think the article would benefit from a short section on Quality of Life, perhaps you could contact an editor with experience on city articles to take a look at it. For now I think I will concentrate on less ambitious edits whilst I get to grips with Wikipedia :-)

Hi Entwined7, thank you for your message. I've had a look at your edit to the Amman article and I suspect you are right. If the information does not match the report it is supposed to be sourced from then it should be treated as suspect and removed.

All material in Wikipedia articles must be attributable to a reliable published source to show that it is not original research, but in practice not everything need actually be attributed. This policy requires that anything challenged or likely to be challenged, including all quotations, be attributed to a reliable source in the form of an inline citation, and that the source directly support the material in question.

This is strictly applied to all material in the mainspace—articles, lists, sections of articles, and captions—without exception, and in particular to material about living persons. Anything that requires but lacks a source may be removed, and unsourced contentious material about living persons must be removed immediately.

Verifiability is one of Wikipedia's core content policies, along with No original research and Neutral point of view.

Many thanks, Marek. I've seen the latest report for Amman which is how I know - the headings were correct but that was it, everything else was not from the report (and the comments were not even similar).

I think that most city articles don't in fact have a section on Quality of Life (it's generally only mentioned for cities that have a very high position in these type of rankings).

I had mixed you up with another user, my mistake. I am wondering if you could help me with an article I am trying to protect, Derek Murawski... it is being abused and currently some users are trying to help turn this around. I wrote parts of it and put in many solid sources (many more than a typical article of this length).
