Hi Macmaclee. Congrats on getting your first assignment done. Could you finish the formatting of your potential articles into "list" version? Given your interest in Sub-Saharan Africa, I think an article on Youth in South Africa would be a fantastic choice. Check out Youth in Denmark and some other pages starting with the term to get some ideas. There's lots of information out there on the topic. Glad you're along for the ride! P.S. Can you fix the typo in your username and create a link to our course page? Thanks! Happy Weekend. Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 22:28, 4 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Prof.Vandegrift! I think I've completed all your suggestions, except for the type in my username - I'm not sure what you're referring to. Could you clarify when you have a chance? Thanks for the help. Macmaclee (talk) 16:43, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
You originally had a signature on your userpage (the 4~ thing) which you don't need. I think I removed it for you! LOL. Your page looks good - I look forward to seeing your work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prof.Vandegrift (talkcontribs) 21:12, 18 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello There!

I'm excited to learn more on your research topics. Just doing a preliminary search on Google, I found lots of World Health Organization info on it. Could be a good place to start. Good Luck! Bulldog53420 (talk) 16:45, 12 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the message, Bulldog53420. Good to know there is some easily accessible information regarding by topics of interest. Macmaclee (talk) 02:29, 18 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Oh No!

Hello, Macmaclee. I am also creating a page called Youth in South Africa! I posted mine yesterday, not that it is first come, first creation! I am not sure if you have done much to research this topic yet. I have done a small amount of research myself. I wish we could work together, but I don't think that is an option. I wonder if we could resolve this with Dr. Vandegrifts help. I'm sure she could suggest a simple resolve. Do you have any suggestions? I see that you spent substantial time working on this and your proposal looks great! Hatigges (talk) 00:22, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

A kitten for you!

Hi, Macmaclee! You have put together a clear proposal of how you plan to work on the new article. Your sources look very good, too. I encourage you to look at other articles in our 'Youth in...' series. The Youth in Denmark article is good. User Hatigges also made some suggestions on the article. Finally, be sure to remember that, unfortunately, you can't use your original research in the article. I'm not sure you were planning to, but the article can only have published scholarship. Nonetheless, your expertise will help guide you to valid sources and write a good article. Keep up the good start!

Sandbox feedback

edit

The article seems to be focusing a lot on apartheid. Though I think it is an important part of South Africa's history, the focus on apartheid is, at times, distracting from the articles task: to explore youth. How could you more explicitly connect apartheid policies to youth in the lead-in paragraph and the education section?.

Your page may also benefit from adding hyperlinks to other pages. You can do this by adding these brackets [ [ ] ] around the word you want to link (but without spaces).

You have a few weasel/peacock phrases in your articles like 'in the opinions of some scholars' that should be eliminated before you take your page of the sandbox.

Could you talk about what policies have had 'poor effects' on the current generation of youth in South Africa?

I also think that another section you could add to your page would be race and youth. This would be a way to explicitly talk about apartheid. But it would also be a place to talk about the kinds of discrimination that seem to be problematic in employment, too.

About a source you used in Youth in South Africa

edit

Hi, congratulations on the new article you've started - I have posted a few comments about it at WT:WikiProject South Africa as you've requested. However I'm after something different here. In the article you mention disability a few times while citing Cramm, JM; Nieboer, AP; Finkenflügel, H; Lorenzo, T (1 January 2013). "Comparison of barriers to employment among youth with and without disabilities in South Africa". Work (Reading, Mass.). 46 (1): 19–24. doi:10.3233/WOR-121521. PMID 23241694.

It seems to me that this source may be very useful for expanding Disability in South Africa which I started a while ago. Unfortunately I don't have access to that journal so I'd like to invite you to please help improve the Disability in SA article using this source. If you're not able to do so, could you please send me a copy of the journal article? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 21:10, 21 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Roger (Dodger67)! I can certainly send you a copy of the journal article. My apologies with my slowness, I'm new to Wikipedia. Macmaclee (talk) 06:13, 2 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for getting back to me. I have managed to obtain a copy of the article so it's all good. My invitation to help improve the Disability in South Africa article still stands - luckily we have no deadlines here at WP. The article is one of a series that editors at WP:WikiProject Disability are attempting to create for every country - there are still hundreds of unwritten ones. If you feel like having a go Template:Disability by country lists the ones that have been started so far - all can do with improvement - or start one of the missing ones.
