super 14 templates

edit

hey there. The Super 14 userbox templates need fixing up, because the New Zealand teams don't use geographic names any more. I don't want to just wander in and renovate your old userboxes without your knowing, but I made one (the most important one) {{User Highlanders1}}, and am happy to do more. Great contributions

edit

Unfortunately I have been busy with Uni so haven't been able to contribute as much as I would like to.

I'm amazed with the amount of effort you have put in, even though it was head and shoulders above the rest of the NRL club wikipages, you have really taken the Sydney Roosters articles to another level. Hopefully it will reach FA status second time around. Good luck!Sbryce858 13:59, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah thanks. I guess you made the basic framework of the article and I've just based it on that. At the moment the featured article candidate is 2/4 votes positive which is a bit iffy. One of the editors wasn't happy with the prose so I've gone over and changed it. With some luck, we might get a few more supporting votes in the next few days. Once this article is made featured hopefully it'll pave way for more rugby league articles too. Who knows, we could collaborate a few featured Sydney Roosters and National Rugby League lists together. Anyway, all the best. --mdmanser 14:05, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Sydney Roosters FAC

edit

Hi Deckiller. I've noticed that a number of editors have recommended you in the past to do copyedits for certain articles with much success. At the moment, the Sydney Roosters nomination for featured article status is frozen pending somebody to do a thorough revision of the article to remove a number of grammar and prose errors. It's pretty close to being perfect, but as one of the writers of the article I find it very tough to find my own mistakes. If you could do the task that would be very much appreciated. Thanks, and all the best. --mdmanser 20:18, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey; it's starting to come together, so it should have no problems with a little more work. — Deckiller 21:58, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks :-) Hopefully we can finish up tonight and/or tomorrow and get all supports by Wednesday. — Deckiller 01:35, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think we're done :) Awesome article; I learned a lot from it! — Deckiller 12:33, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
You might want to make a final run for grammar, spelling, and style usage, since I have the flu and I might have taken a few words out that were necessary or changed words that are used differently in Australia, etc. — Deckiller 17:18, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Obscure Roosters

edit

Hey MD, I'm all for articles on long dead RL players and you can see from my User page that I've written a few but I'm not so sure about stubs on obscure long dead Roosters that say nothing more than the fact that the bloke played for the Roosters. Are you hoping someone is going to expand the article or will you ? My own view is that to be notable a player needs to have done something notable and I'm not sure that Les Cubitt, Bob Williams, Bill Shankland, Fred Tottey etc have but maybe I'm wrong. Can you tell me if there has been relevant discussion on this issue that gives guidance? I appreciate that this enables the category list of Roosters players to be complete but is category completeness a justification for meaningless individual articles ? Happy to discuss. Rgds Sticks66 04:09, 29 November 2006 (UTC) Also meant to say MD, congratulations for tremendous and sustained work on the Roosters article. RgdsSticks66 04:49, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Only the USA?

edit

You say on the cricket talk page that "the USA is the only English-speaking country that doesn't care about cricket at all. Please do not be ignorant about the fact that the other 85% of English Wikipedia users, all of whom live outside the USA, think of 'cricket' immediately as a sport." Well, I'm Canadian, and please do not be so ignorant about the fact that I do not live in the USA, and when I and 30 million other Canadians think about cricket, I think of the insect. 24.199.116.142 15:16, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

List of famous Old Sydneians

edit

Hi, how have you been? How were your results? (I know this is a Wiki, you can just tell me if you were satified!). Regrading the article, I've Wikilinked every name so it will be easier to remove fake ones added by vandals and take away non-notable ones. There are some alumni that are redlinked but are supported with refs. I suppose we can create articles on these people and perhaps try to make them WP:DYK. Excellent work on the Roosters btw! You've made good progress in this article too. I'll try to help by adding more refs and creating articles for the redlinks. If you have some time later on, you can help me out on Cricket World Cup, which I've made a GA. Cheers mate GizzaChat © 22:24, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Roosters 1967.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Roosters 1967.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Untagged image

edit

An image you uploaded, Image:Sydney Boys High School Logo.png, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 13:45, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

every member(97) of the ICC gets a chance to compete in the world cup by playing in tournments and then from the tournaments they get ranked/picked and from there they go the icc trophy to compete in the world cup--Thugchildz

your right it didn't happen for the 1st world cups but it did happen in 1979 when the icc trophy came in place.--Thugchildz

again your probably right that there probably weren't all the current members thats why its not there anymore but since I'm tryig to get some other facts on them can you please check how many member did ICC have back then. Thank you, appreciate it.--Thugchildz

Are OS allowed to access the library?

If that isn't the case, it will be awhile before there is any significant progress on both Grammar articles. I've realised that a fair bit of the info we need can only be found in books or on papers in the "Archives" section. GizzaChat © 01:09, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cricket World Cup

edit

I only removed the images because they're most certainly going to be discouraged at any possible FA nomination. Apart from that, they are of low quality and have little purpose scattered throughout the article. Most of the best articles on Wikipedia have few images on them - I don't think having this article saturated with them is going to do any good at all. It would also be sensible if we made this article as close to Rugby World Cup and FIFA World Cup as possible; notice how their styling is good and effective without the infobox and the scratchy pictures. I'm only trying to help here, having already written a Featured Article myself, and using that experience to try and help promote this article as well. --mdmanser 02:17, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

i certainly dont see them having low perpose as they all have something to do with the section next to it. it doesn't matter about other articles we dont have to copy other articles: 1. they aren't cricket related articles so they are going to have differences 2. it is loosely based on them but it does not have to be exact.--Thugchildz
Mate find me one featured article that has 6 copyright violations on the entire Wikipedia and get back to me. No, rugby and football articles are different to cricket in content but that does not mean that we should sway away from their manual of style; after all, they're using the Wikipedia conventions whilst the Cricket World Cup article is not anymore. Why not learn from the success of others and appropriate into our own articles? Others have expressed concerns over those images on the page as well so it's not just me who's against them being there. At the end of the day it comes down to whether or not you want this article to be featured or not. I can tell you for one thing though, those images will never be on a featured article page together. --mdmanser 02:37, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
i dont see what you are calling a copyvio. if those are copyvio i dont know what this is [1]. the cricket artcle is still in the wp manual style form. please talk to user:Nobleeagle and me before doing anything and lets discuss this together before doing anything to it. as nobleeagle and i worked hard on this specially him to get it to where it is now...--Thugchildz
hey i just created some article starters that needs huge works. So if you really want to help please help on these following articles so we don't have to put info about the past ones for each section of the main article and just put the current info like in the FIFA World Cup article.

mascots/attendace etc like the fifa mascots

history of world cup like the fifa world cup history so we dont need to have have a paragraph for each world cup in the main article(trim it down to the main/most important things) but please keep the prior to the world cup section and prudential world cups sections the same as they are the main history.

trophy like the fifa world cup trohpy please add info about the past trophies before this if possible.

world cup hosts like the FIFA World Cup hosts

world cup award like the fifa world cup awards

world cup teams like the FIFA World Cup's --Thugchildz

hey im sorry for any thing that might have been wrong. i dont want it to be anything personal. and sorry about those comments. but for now can we please cool it until that thing does become a big problem, please? lets not mension anything about it for a while and if it still is a problem then , you can remove it. for now can we please not get personal or anthing and just get along and contribute with whatever. thanks again and sorry. best regards--Thugchildz

so you had to bring it up huh? no one said anything about removing the infobox and the thing was that we would remove it if it becames a problem for getting it to the FA but since no one else said to remove it you just did. well its ok. and why even bring up these when these were already discussed before, so to me you are getting in the way of it getting it to FA, no offense but i did/will fix which is correct from what you said. but i am hoping you did it with good will--Thugchildz

I don't think it's wrong for me or anyone else to comment on the article. As I said, I want this article to be as good as it can possibly be. There's no censorship in FAC or Wikipedia as a whole, and I would like to share my comments and thoughts with a broader range of editors who are often much more critical than in Peer Review. One editor said that there are a few problems with the box and another one said he had issues in a Mozilla browser. If it's going to pose a problem for viewers then shouldn't the prospect of removing it be discussed as a whole? I'm not getting in the way if i merely comment. If I wanted to block this becoming featured then I would object wouldn't I? But why do you think I want this infobox removed - what's in it for me personally? When I post comments and suggestions I want to make Wikipedia even better than it already is. Of course I'm doing everything with good will. Trust me, there are a few objections from editors already in this FAC - I want to come up with a few remedies and make them happy and change to support. But I'm not sure how that's going to be achieved when I simply get knocked back with everything I say. If you do follow my advice (which I hope you do) I can speedily make this a FAC. All the best. --mdmanser 02:46, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
fair enough, but if this infobox is getting in the way for them, can you please ask if any other infoboxes are in the way or not. because other FA's have infoboxes too. well how does the other user have issues in Mozilla browser when i use mozila browser myself most of the time and check it IE if thats ok there too. but please don't let this stop you from improving the article. please help us and if other reviewers have problems with it that can't be solved it will be removed. but please help us out on the other issues of the article like references etc--Thugchildz
Hey take it as your edit have been revert. It was just taken into the orinal one because there's no need for two seperate ones. The orinal one is used in other articles too, so its profitable for all of them to have the new edition that you have made. Thanks for the edit because it did make the infobox look better. It's just that I didn't get why you would make a new one when you could have added the new editions into it.--Thugchildz

Hi,

This image uploaded by you incorrectly shows English Cricket Team as champions, while they have never won the Cricket World Cup. Can you please correct it. Also, consider switching over to A large blank world map with oceans marked in blue.svg as it would be easier to edit and understand. Regards, — Ambuj Saxena () 12:32, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm....It is a bit straining to zoom into the map to confirm if the colour is lighter or darker. I think we should have chosen more distinguishable shades. I can work on the svg image whenever I am free. — Ambuj Saxena () 14:27, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
