Username

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "LydhamHallCurator", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Thanks for the information but Lydham Hall is not a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. It is a building. There is no business or organisation called Lydham Hall. I hope this explanation suffices. LydhamHallCurator (talk) 13:24, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reply. As it says in the article, Lydham Hall is a museum, and museums have curators. That would make it an organisation and the curator of such an organisation would indeed need to declare a conflict of interest. Furthermore, your edits so far have all been connected to Lydham Hall and its history, including adding external links in text to the St George Historical Society that runs the museum - when combined with your username, this can make your edits appear to be WP:Advocacy, for which wikipedia is not an appropriate platform.
If you do have an undisclosed connection to the management of Lydham Hall or the St George Hostorical Society, that does not stop you from editing Wikipedia, but you must disclose it and avoid contributing directly to the article as you are not an impartial editor. Wikipedia is WP:NOT a platform for self-promotion, advocacy, marketing or public relations, however the policy WP:COI does not exclude museum curators from providing other editors with links and references that can be used to improve articles per WP:CURATOR, or from adding WP:External links. If you click on the blue links in the text, these will take you directly to the policies relating to these things. I would recommend you familiarise yourself with these, and consider declaring any conflicts of interest you may have. Otherwise editors may see your contributions as unconstructive and continue to delete or revert them and it could result in admins deciding to ban you or restrict your IP address from editing Wikipedia. If I may step into this conversation. I am a historian who for some time makes changes in this article. I am providing correct information and external links (have some troubles in mechanics here) to further information inline with the Wiki policies. I am interested in providing links to the correct information only which is not the case with the St George Historical Society Inc website. I wish with any changes the historical side and links to the research were untouched and stayed. Appreciate your cooperation. Olga Olga Sydney (talk) 08:51, 31 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
