Fair use rationale for Image:IlGlobofrontpage.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:IlGlobofrontpage.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Alpta 16:29, 10 September 2007 (UTC) Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:IlGlobofrontpage.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:IlGlobofrontpage.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:19, 11 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bali Nine article

edit

I have been editing the Bali Nine article recently, and noticed the image (that claims to be police evidence) used in the article of Martin Stephens showing him with heroin strapped around his chest. However, since you uploaded the image, do you know the article related to the image? I have searched news.com.au and can't find the image. Would you be able to help me find it? The image can't be included and labelled as "police evidence" unless there is a reliable source that says the image was police evidence. Kind regards, Sebi [talk] 09:12, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Longhair ! There has been many problems over the last few months with this article. Persons have been placing defamatory information on the page, with then either Roberts or someone claiming to represent him, making further alterations and adding promotional material, which then led to a war of words between these parties. I tried to improve the article a few times as best as i could by using some referenced sources, but most information was mainly from unreferenced sources. Another Editor has now removed everything and reverted the article to a one line stub and semi-protected the page. Not sure how the article can be improved upon now, but have left details also with User talk:Orderinchaos. Maybe Admins can decide on what is best for this article's progression, specially since a movie is being based on the book later this year. Boylo 00:18, 12 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I was hoping that you could help me as one of the articles I have posted has recently had a copyright voilation notice posted on it and I cannot for the life of me work out how this article is a copyright violation as it doesn't resemble the reference cited 'All Music Guide' at all - the basic facts are the same but thats only becuase they are historical and not in dispute. If there was anythign that even faintly represented a copyright violation of that reference I would be happy to correct it but I honestly can't work it out. I was going to put in some references to the quotes used in the article but find myself unable and the article about to be deleted. Is there some process that I can question the posting of the copyright violation notice?Dan arndt 06:04, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

How do I get the copyvio removed? Dan arndt 06:18, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Advice sought

Talk:Leanne Clare RE: →Chris Hurley - remove hopelessly POV commentary, how did all this get by without my noticing?

Hi Longhair, Bec, OIC, VS and CJ (Aussie Admins that I know of); wow Jb3 can go on! I think we have a wikilawyer-in-training, although he/she only seems to ever focus on this one issue.

If you're interested I'd like to know your opinion, the section seemed pretty blatant POV to me, the neutrality of the sources themselves could also be questioned. His analysis is flawed but I think it would be counterproductive for me to get into a whole point by point technical argument for pages and pages, I didn't have the page on my watchlist otherwise I would have been on to this long ago. So your third opinion is sought on how much I should engage/disengage on this issue, or if you might like to come in as a non-involved party. Hi, sorry for my late reply. Do you want me to keep User:Longhair/AUWPtable up-to-date? --Erwin85 14:36, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've updated the page for my bot to be able to see for what categories it should count the containing pages. An explanation of the syntax can be found at User talk:Longhair/AUWPtable. How often do you want me to update the page? I'm thinking something like once or twice a day. At the moment the replication lag is more than 2 days[1]. It could be useful to know that, so do you want me to put the current time and replag on the page everytime my bot updates it?
BTW, I suggest you check the list of namespaces to be counted for each category. I simply checked the category to see what kind of pages it contains, but I assume I made some errors. --Erwin85 16:13, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The editing habits are nearly identical (with plenty of edits on Chris Alajajian) and there is a link to his external webpage that bears the name of User:Peter Franklin Jr, one of Aussie Jrs socks. I went to Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets and editing seems to be limited to admins. Cheers, Mattinbgn\ talk 23:27, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Gothic punk as a genre/style

edit

Hello. I'd like to address the removal of the information of the "gothic punk" style of music. Currently, it has enough support by critics, etc in order for it to take place as a style of music. I agree with you on the basis that some of the information on the page was more or less independent of the actual origins of the style, but before entire content is deleted, please consider the grounds that you've taken on it as "nonsense". Thanks.

N64 Gamer

edit

I have just discovered that the article on 'N64 Gamer' has been deleted. The reason for this was based on the premises that firstly it was not a reputable magazine and secondly that the article itself consisted of original research. Being one of the writers for that article, I have a number of concerns with this action, resulting from what I see as faulty and inconsistent justifications, especially regarding the former, which was the primary reason for deletion.

Regardless of international status or even in terms of domesticated mainstream media/press, this magazine was popular amongst Nintendo 64 owners and had quite an extensive readership. If the mere fact that a magazine is not received beyond its target audience deems it immaterial and unworthy of an article entry, then there is quite of lot of deleting you must do. For example, why not delete the article on "Nintendo Magazine System" (NMS), N64 Gamer's rival? Be consistent. Furthermore, even outside of the magazine realm, why not start cracking down on forgotten ex-television personalities, such as those from Big Brother and Australian Idol? They seem to me to be immaterial and unworthy. They did reach their target audiences like I am suggesting N64 Gamer did, but importantly, they were instantly disposable whereas Gamer was not. So really, in this regard, it has more reason to be included than a 7th place 2005 Australian Idol runner up like James Kannis. And I am sure that Gamer is on the mind of its previous audience whereas I absolutely doubt the likes of the aforementioned D-grade celebrity receive the same embrace.

It is true that the article consisted of original research. I can admit to as much as I dug up the material myself. However, there really is not a great deal of internet based resources that can be used to construct an article from. Maybe this is enough to justify the magazine being irrelevant and unpopular. But if you are to propose that, then you fall again to inconsistency. NMS does just the same thing, but maintains its entry. And as I highlighted, this would involve a tremendous amount of article deletions/revisions, amongst a huge range of topics/genres.

Also, the link to the forum article was blocked. This contained first-hand, or 'primary' sources from the staff themselves. That to me is absolutely negligent and prevents the actual possibility to reference sources. So by doing so, the article is unfairly being withheld from repairing itself to the standards you require.

It seems wrong to me to erase from existence something that was a significant aspect of Australia's N64 era. Even if the article is to be reduced significantly, I do believe it deserves to be on Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.111.102.217 (talk) 06:38, 27 September 2007 (UTC) Reply

Hi
I noticed that you rated the article mentioned above as start class and stub class. I have add quite a lot of new information to this article and provided one reference, a book that covers every thing in the article, I also turned the external links that where there into refs as they confirm the article as well. Even though I got the information from a book, it's entirely in my own words. I would rate the article but I think that might be a conflict of interest if I add most of the content myself. The article might need a cleanup concerning grammar. Would you be so kind as to have a quick look at the article to see if it needs to be re-rated. Currently am having an uphill battle with some of the US Wikipedians wanting to delete the Goodna Shopping Centre article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Goodna_Shopping_Centre ) as they have placed it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Shopping_Centers after it was placed in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Australia category.

As it is a very important link to the Goodna http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodna%2C_Queensland article would appreciate your constructive input on this discussion and/or advise what needs to be done to article to ensure it stays.

Thanks in advance!

Since then I've notice them appear as another user and today appeared as this user making their controversial edits on Sydney public transport again - it appears that the latter, complete with appropriate name, is purely for the purpose of editing public transport articles and, if there is to be a repeat of last time, will be pushing their own POV agenda to others' detriment. I'm assuming good faith right now and not going to report this as sockpuppetry unless I have someone else's advice, but from the previous actions of this user, I have a feeling it might be. If you are able to help, I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks. JRG 10:14, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wow. I knew coming back to this would be a mistake. I would ask that you demand JRG show one edit - one single edit - I have made that is POV (as alleged) or vandalism (as alleged)? This sort of bullying is reprehensible. If you people want me off Wikipedia for good, just come out and say so. TransitPolice 15:08, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
If it is true, and if you are the user concerned. You shouldn't be editing, as it says on the userpage of the user concerned that the user is banned indefinitely from editing, that includes second accounts and socks. --Arnzy (talk · contribs) 06:40, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. You should talk to Orderinchaos (either on or off Wikipedia) who has also been dealing with this. JRG 06:54, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
All I know is what's been publicly posted. That much, however, leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. Orderinchaos 15:38, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why

edit

I had a page on here about my group! And you deleted it. Look just because something is not famous or well known, doesn't mean that it is worthless! I am also unhappy about the N64 Gamer page, Wikkipedia is the encyclopedia for those people who want something different from the ordinary encyclopedia! I come here for everything small, oh and you have a page on Real Ultimate Power! Of all the stuff I've seen on here that page has not reason to be on here. If your going to have real ultimate power then I think my page should still be on here. In fact I'm going to put a new version on here right now! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Togocurian (talkcontribs) 18:17, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Page Request

edit

Can you please help me? The Albert Einstein page is locked for editing and I feel that an important quote that Einstein had should be included on the page. It is "We cannot fix our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them". Thank you for your help Dustihowe 16:48, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Talk:Gundagai, New South Wales protection level

edit

Just a heads up, you semi-protected this page back on April 8 of this year. No vandalism has since occurred from the sockpuppeteer involved, so it'd probably be safe to remove the protection. Regards, AllynJ (talk | contribs) 15:53, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oberon High School

edit

Hi, you reverted my removal of something on the OHS page. Why? You say I am "ruining others work". If you check your records, you'll see that I wrote the damn section!! I was changing it, because, on talkig to Ms. Martella about it, she was in Melbourne that day, 100km from Mr Rudd's visit. So can you please let me make this acurate, instead of just assuming that I am "vandalising" everything?! Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by FlightOfStairs (talkcontribs)
