You are new to Wikpedia. It wasn't intended as an insult. I did respond to your points. The moment you hit the "save page" button, your contribution belongs to everyone, not just you. I don't understand what your intent is. Are you interested in building the most respected web based encyclopedia on the web? If so, then you must surely acknowledge that when you regstered your username you accepted some level of standards. That you feel that school listings are unimportant, perhaps the person creating the article did. I'll abide by whatever the consensus comes to in this Vfd. I personally wish to rename and possible move this project into userify and revamp the focus. I did not create this project but was invited here. I agree with SOME of the goals of the project...why do you feel so threatened...I simply don't get it.--MONGO 10:48, August 19, 2005 (UTC)
Everything that attacks freedom of thought and expression threatens me. I cannot understand that you ( and others) cannot understand the slipperly slope we move on when projects like the one started apear on something like Wikipedia. I am getting sick of all this talk about standards. Standards will be reached by consensus. I mentioned schools just to make the point that not everybody thinks alike, and that not all sane persons neccesarily put the same importance on things. And I guess you agree, so why do you condone this censorship movement as it is? I understand you want to make it into something else. Why not shoot it down and create the thing you want in the first place? You only agree with some of their agenda. Let me clarify my intent: I want Wikipedia to be just like the internet originaly was envisioned by the idealists (dreamers?) of old. The offline rules, hangups and prejudices don't NEED to apply here, we can create something new and valuable. I don't see having offline respect for Wikipedia as a goal perse. It would be nice, but I don't get my kicks and justification from the opinions of others. If we know what is created here is a good encyclopdia the rest of the world (even the UsA :P) will follow. --Lomedae 11:02, August 19, 2005 (UTC)
- I think it is already being done, in Wikipedia that is. Assurdedly, if the project did or does pass and even if if were to have remained in it's currently apparently hostile form, it wouldn't have caused more than a few relatively minor disruptions to what you feel are inalienable rights. I wouldn't get so worked up about it...most of the folks involved in the project creation were probably only going to utilize their "powers" in the most egregious of situations...that there are a few that find that the image of such things as autofellatio doesn't mean that the image would be banned...it has been up for Vfd at least twice and passed both times. Seriously, don't be threatened by this whole thing...whatever does evlove out of it will be a damn sight tamer if I'll be a ongoing adherent. Have a good one.--MONGO 11:12, August 19, 2005 (UTC)
Wise words in any case :) Just for the record, I don't feel hey are my inalienable rights, I just feel they're important enough to fight for. That's an important distinction IMHO :) Severe though my reaction might be, as son and grandson of people who lived trough an occupation of my country I am very sensitive to every infringement on freedom of thought and press. And the current tendencies in both Europe and the UsA are cause for considerable distress on this issue. So I maybe tend to overreact in the eyes of some. Well, so be it. I will not be the one who stood idly by whilst bigots took over another chunk of the net. I will at least have had the satisfaction of having my voice heard.
