I came across the article you started, David Bradford. I thought it was pretty good, but I have a few suggestions about internal links: 1. try not to overlink things. For example, you link Washington County, Pennsylvania, several times. Generally, especially in a short article, you only need to link once. In a very long article, a word might be linked a few times at different points, but that's usually unnecessary. 2. Be careful with common words. Places named Washington are incredibly common in the US (at least one per state) and there are 31 Washington Counties in the US. Your original link to Washington County led to a disambiguation page. You may find piped links helpful. Basically a piped link is a link where the text displayed on the page and the article title are different. 3. Always link dates containing both a month and numerical day, like November 30th. Wikipedia allows users to select how they want dates to display. In some countries, dates are usually written day-month, and in others it's month-day (30 November or November 30th). By linking the dates, the way they are displayed will change for those will different preference settings.
Also, Wikipedia style is to not capitalize section headings. Only the first word and any proper nouns in the heading are capitalized.
If you have any questions, drop me a note here or on my talk page. Keep up the good work! Natalie 23:22, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:Johnstone2.png
editThanks for uploading Image:Johnstone2.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 09:06, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Johnstone1.png
editThank you for uploading Image:Johnstone1.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Zeimusu | Talk page 09:34, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Pchodgell.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Pchodgell.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξxplicit 00:58, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:RumpelstiltskinDeansFairyTales.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:RumpelstiltskinDeansFairyTales.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:06, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Hi Lizabeth 83! Thanks for finding the Louise Tracy reference for the subject article. I have been looking for something that gave the names of all the governors that are connected with Frances, and you provided it. I've taken the reference and added more material to the article. That was a great reference. By the way, the little book entitled Frances the Falconers Daughter (1932) was a big disappointment. I thought it would give the names of her descendants, but it was instead a recap of Rhode Island history as told through her eyes, and provided very little personal info about her or her family. I sure appreciate your wonderful contribution to the article; I'm always looking for an excuse to write about colonial women, and besides this article I've created articles for Herodias Gardiner and Susanna Cole, as well as expanding Anne Hutchinson. Best wishes.Sarnold17 (talk) 01:57, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
