Issue V — Holiday 2008

Project News

Articles for the more popular and "star" players of the league need to be expanded, have citations added to them and hopefully we can get some GA's out of them.
All articles on active players and coaches need to be updated with stats, news, and all things important. (Note: For stats it's best to use ArenaFan.)
Also, we NEED to get things done so we can take them off of the to do list.

Current Events

The Lexington Horsemen of af2 will now be known as the Kentucky Horsemen after being taken over by a non-profit organization.
The af2 schedule was released and the league's 10th anniversary season begins on March 20, 2009.
In November, the Louisville Fire have ceased operations as an af2 team. That is, for the 2009 season, atleast as one of the owners of the Fire, Will Wolford, and team General Manager Dave Berryman pitched to the Arena Football League the idea of Louiville joining the AFL.
It was announced that former head coach Derek Stingley would not be returning to the South Georgia Wildcats.
It was announced that the new arena football team in Toledo, Ohio would be named the Toledo Bullfrogs.
Jeff Everetts and Jim Smith, two businessmen from Batesville and Bryant, Arkansas respectively, have replaced Steve Clary and Jim Guy Tucker as majority owners of the Arkansas Twisters.
Derek Stingley has joined the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings as the teams new Defensive coordinator.
The AFL announced that the 2009 disperal draft will take place Tuesday, December 2 at 1 p.m. ET. The league also annouced that the free agency period (which was pushed back) will begin at 12:01 a.m. ET on Thursday, December 4.
The Albany Firebirds have hired Tony Bowick as their new head coach.
It was announced that if arena football doesn't succed in Albany next season, it may never, and may be the end of the sport in the city.

On November 7, the Arizona Rattlers re-signed Defensive linemen Wendall Gaines and Anttaj Hawthorne.
On November 10, the Rattlers released Wide receiver Siaha Burley.
On November 14, the Colorado Crush re-signed Defensive back Jason Harmon.

December 1, 1991 — Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino sets an NFL record when he surpassed 3,000 yards passing for the eighth time in his career in a Dolphins' 33-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
December 2, 1984 — Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino breaks the NFL single-season touchdown pass record when he threw his 37th in a 45-34 loss to the Oakland Raiders. He finished the season with 48 touchdown passes.
December 4, 1997 — Cincinnati Bengals running back Corey Dillon rushed for a rookie record 246 yards in a 41-14 win over the Tennessee Oilers.
December 8, 1940 — The Chicago Bears established an NFL record by defeating the Washington Redskins 73-0 in the championship game. Ten Bears players score touchdowns as Chicago won the title before 36,034 in Washington, D.C. Each player received $873.
December 10, 1989 — Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Steve Largent recorded his NFL record 100th touchdown catch in the Seahawks' 24-17 win in Cincinnati.
December 14, 1969 — San Diego Chargers wide receiver Lance Alworth set a professional football record with a pass reception in his 96th consecutive game.
December 18, 1932 — The Chicago Bears defeated the Portsmouth Spartans 9-0 in a playoff game for the NFL championship after both teams finished the season with six wins. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Wrigley Field, but was moved indoors to Chicago Stadium because of snow and extreme cold. Special ground rules were set up to keep the ball in the middle of the improvised 80-yard long dirt-covered field that was flanked by walls on both sides. (Sounds reminsent of arena football, don't you think?)
December 22, 1946 — Otto Graham led the Cleveland Browns to a 14-9 victory over the New York Yankees at Cleveland Stadium in the first All-America Football Conference championship game.
December 23, 1972 — Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Oakland Raiders 13-7 in an AFC Divisional Playoff Game when Franco Harris' made, what when down in the history of professional sports as one of the greatest plays of all time, the "Immaculate Reception." It was also the first playoff win in franchise history.
December 28, 1958 — Alan Ameche's one-yard dive gives the Baltimore Colts a 23-17 NFL Championship win over the New York Giants in "sudden death" overtime, which was dubbed the "Greatest Game Ever Played."

Arena Football League Article Stats

Our goal is to get the number of Stub-Class articles down to 0, in due time. The current article count is listed below, I have placed the forumla that is on the project page that is updated everytime the bot is run and it tallies up our articles and where they are and lists them as seen below, so that no one has to worry about making sure it's updated manually before the newsletter is sent out. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help expand and/or source an article or two. A list is provided in the stub-class category of stub articles that need to be improved, and some should be fairly easy.

I haven't updated yet, but does this work with Image --> File and Image talk --> File talk? Lego K^ontribs T^alkM 02:47, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

That change is not reflected in my code yet (will include it). But since the bot currently doesn't follow any workflows in the image namespace, it shouldn't make a difference.

On another point: Last night the bot had a very strange behavior; it added the content to the pages, rather than replacing it [1]. If possible, could you post the log of last night (before the bot runs today)? --B. Wolterding (talk) 16:56, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi Legoktm, it seems that the new version has not been rolled out yet. Do you want to update the bot on the short term, or is it better to wait until I will deliver some more modifications in a few days? Problems with ArticleAlertBot

Hi, i normally wouldn't contact someone about a bot but i'm confused as to what the bot is telling me. I'm in Wikipedia:WikiProject TUGS, and we have article alerts running on the page. The bot is currently telling me that there is a problem with one of the templates (see Wikipedia:WikiProject TUGS/Article alerts) and that it doesn't exist. But it does.
