License tagging for Image:Shepard louis oh.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Shepard louis oh.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Decius Wade in Category:People from Ohio

edit

Please don't add this redundant category back again. As I stated in my edit summary when I removed it, the article is already in four different subcategories of "People from Ohio." Postdlf 15:33, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lewis Capet Shepard

edit

Hi Lasherp, thanks for the info about Lewis (a.k.a. Louis) Shepard. I clicked through the reference links and couldn't find any mention of his name being spelled "Lewis", so I changed it in the article. I missed the alternate spelling on his headstone. I think the notes you added to the article are sufficient to clear things up, sorry about the misunderstanding. jwillbur 20:06, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Formatting References

edit

Hola!

Please take better care in your contributions.

Learning to format your references; add author if available, title, original source, date, publication, hosting site if applicable, etc.

Please read:

Wikipedia:Citing sources and also Wikipedia:Citing sources/example style

Quality in > quality out...

Do NOT use the REFLIST "2" tag until there are a certain number of references, like in Harry S. Truman. IP4240207xx 18:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

UPPER CASE USAGE: Take an extra ten seconds and make this:

"SOUTHARD, DAVID"

Look like this:

"Southard, David"

Do NOT change the title of source material. If you cite "The Great Gatsby", don't change it to "Gatsby is Great". If you were an author and wrote something, you would want to be cited correctly. You changed the name of a Webpage from "Civil War Medal of Honor Citations" to "SOUTHARD, DAVID, Civil War Medal of Honor recipient". Keep the name of the page mostly consistent. Also, if the source is NOT dated, as in this case, don't make up one. Leave it out.

Your entry:

<:ref name=AMOHW> "SOUTHARD, DAVID, Civil War Medal of Honor recipient". American Civil War website. 2007-11-08. Retrieved 2007-11-08. {{cite web}}: Check date values in: |date= (help)</ref>

My Correction:

<:ref name=AMOHW> ""Civil War Medal of Honor Citations" (S-Z): Southard, David". AmericanCivilWar.com. Retrieved 2007-11-08.</ref>

Bios

edit

Bios need to have a similar look and feel to other bios. Please see:

Then I would like you to look at 20 bio's on here of MOH recipients, popular ones. Look at the way they are formatted, and look at the layout. They need to be "Wikified" (Wikify) to look like the other articles. We want all the articles, and bio's, to have the same "look and feel", the same layout. This helps the reader. If articles are in 10 or 20 different formats, it frustrates the reader.

Carry on,

edit

Don't do "18, May". See:

Waffle words

edit

Don't say: "He left this earth"

This do NOT belong in an encyclopedia. Go get Encyclopedia Britannica, or Americana, or World Book, etc, and find that kind of verbage.

Say that for the obituaries or the mortuary.

The "Clear" tag

edit

The clear tag should NOT be needed if you edit properly. IP4240207xx 18:23, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

American Civil War website

edit

There are hundreds, maybe in the thousands that meet the criteria: "American Civil War website". Please just put: AmericanCivilWar.com

License tagging for Image:MOHL-1-.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:MOHL-1-.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot 16:07, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
