You're welcome

It was a pleasure to revert. One more we won't have to worry about. He is gone.Cheers.--Dakota ~ ° 16:57, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Very perceptive [1]. Same one of course.

Please keep up the help and thanks.--Dakota ~ ° 17:12, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. I took care of the one you reverted. It's possible but not certain that it may have taken care of the others for awhile through collateral block. Hope so anyway. Thanks again.--Dakota ~ ° 17:25, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Latino

sorry, I didn't take a Wikipedia tutorial before doing my first contribution and didn't know what I was doing. I didn't realize I was fighting you on the Latino edit, I thought the page just wasn't taking my change. I of course agree with you on the Latino thing, I used "Hispanic" because that's what the language the census data used and didn't want to alter their categories.

A episodic french intruder

Hello, thank you for your welcome message. Kindest regards. --Ygonaar 00:02, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind response. You are most welcome to contribute to the English language version. We certainly can use increased perspective in a number of areas! Kukini 00:36, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Re-thanks :-) At first, I think of editing PCR like articles in French Wikipedia. When they will be ended and validated by other french speaker biologist, I hope can use it as base to complete english articles (with good english translator!). Thanks for your interest. Kindest regards. --Ygonaar 00:56, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Boxes and user

I see Zoe already took care of it, good work. My apologies, I just got back online. Cleaning my space and laundry on this evening off. The best.--Dakota ~ ° 02:29, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

RfA

No need to apologize; it happens all the time. I tried to use an edit summary that wouldn't sound like I was screaming "ZOMG YOU VANDAL I AM GOING TO BLOCK YOU FOREVER!" ;-); I hope you didn't take it that way. Don't let this keep you from expressing your opinions; you can usually watch for the headers at the top of the page that will point out a closed vote (but there's really no harm even if you miss them; some mean person like me will just come along and revert you with an evil edit summary :-) ).

I'm glad to hear you're working with Esperanza; I served as the Administrator General of Esperanza towards the end of last year. It's a great organization, and I think more people should be involved in those kinds of activities. Essjay TalkContact 14:11, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree about welcoming; I used to do a lot of it, in fact, I wrote {{welcome4}} because I didn't care for the other templates that were available.
You can find information on customizing signatures at WP:SIG#Customizing_your_signature; I actually do it a way that is discouraged, that is, I subst: a user-subpage instead of actually having a signature. When I sign ~~~~, it actually inserts {{subst:User:Essjay/Sig}}, which has my custom signature on it. Really, there's not much wrong with using this method; the result is the same (the signature code being inserted), since I use subst:. Anyhow, if you need help working it all out, let me know. Essjay TalkContact 14:28, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rikki Lee Travolta

Please reconsider your vote on that. My research suggests that this person is just a self promoter and has added information to Amazon Wikipedia and other websites to create a false impression of notability.(see Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Possible_advertising_scam). Thanks Arniep 16:26, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi, the link which you added to the Rikki Lee Travolta page mentions a film that he was in called Camelot: Excalibur directed by Donna DeCarl and that the DVD will be released in 2004 by Abracadabra Productions. This is Donna DeCarl's IMDb entry here. Abracadabra productions are a Wedding photography company here. There is no film that exists called Camelot: Excalibur. Please reconsider your vote to keep. Thanks Arniep 20:44, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Concerns

Your kind words are very much appreciated, thank you. We need more kindness here. I see what you mean about the articles for deletion concern. I am glad you also contacted Zoe because I am mostly a late night editor due to work hours not getting home until 6am or so and am probably late in replying here. Usually edit at work in between duties. A couple of well needed days off from 10-12 hour workdays is so nice. That editor certainly seems to be on a mission. This article needs to be trimmed [2] because I don't think he is this persons nephew based on this official bio. I am neutral because there is so much conflicting info on the internet about the subject. Rambling here. I have watchlisted the subject. If you need help or want to talk let me know. Take care.--Dakota ~ ° 18:22, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.
Signed...

Fake barn stars

Can you please confirm if you awarded User:The_Man's_Plans any barn stars. It is strongly suspected that he is misrepresenting himself.

Issue w/ Carson Daly Productions Page

My intention was to add unbiased information about Carson Daly's business endeavors, and I was accused of being under the "corporate arm of Carson Daly." I have used various sources online for my research, mainly using Yahoo! as my search engine.

I know the box on my page says not be offended, but unfortunately, I was. I recently responded by considering a merger of my article on the Carson Daly biography page. I would like to know what will happen to my webpage. I am hoping it will stay posted.

I am new as a contributor to Wikipedia. I am learning about this site as I go along. I love logging on to this website. I love using it as research when I write my articles. I am a freelance writer and a journalist. Your website helps me a lot. That is why I joined, so I can give back to it with my knowledge and experience.

I ask for your help in solving this minor problem. It is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration. Once again, your experience and wisdom is greatly appreciated. Hope to hear from you soon. Take care.

Many Blessings,

Countering Vandals

Thanks for your greeting, Kukuni. I would like to consult you about how to warn and block a vandal. If you will review the contribs of user 209.175.82.2, you will discover that he has contributed to Wikipedia solely for the purpose of vandalism for over a year, while incurring no disciplinary action. Judging from his conspicuous posts, the user is a 14-year-old boy living in Illinois, by the name of Matt Oxley. The young man has a penchant for racist and antisemitic vandalism. Unfortunately, some of his distructive edits have gone unnoticed, including a few to the page of Maya Angelou. I discovered these today and tried to repair them as best as could be done after the relatively lengthy period that has transpired since his visit to that page. However, I didn't have time to check all of his other edits to make sure that each had been corrected.

Is there some way that he can be warned, watched, and blocked if this pattern continues? Thanks again. Projection70 18:37, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome. This quite honestly is one of the best communities of which I've ever been a part. So friendly!

reply

Good question. (I had to go look them up! :))

That should help a bit, 'eh?

The reason the notability tag wasn't appropriate is that there is no notability requirement for most articles on wikipedia. Seems odd, but it's true. The main things that notability covers are people, businesses, numbers and websites. It's a bit of a grey area for everything else. It's usually covered by the policy WP:V. If it's not notable, it will be super hard to get verifiable info...

I've rambled on for too long now, and it's time for bed. G'night and if you have any more questions please leave a message on my talk page! :) ---J.Smith 05:55, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Harry S Truman 'Policies' section

You have chosen to edit-revert changes in the Harry S Truman 'Policies' section that discussed important (and verifiable) low-esteem relationships that he had with Gen Douglas MacArthur and President-Elect Eisenhower. [Captured in news photos and TV coverage of the day.]

Your edit tag says 'gossip', meaning, I assume, that you're classifying the information as idle chatter.

I don't understand?

Withdrawing a nomination

The nominator can withdraw their nomination, but only an administrator can close the discussion (or at least others are not supposed to do that, as far as I can see). It may help to signal the attention of an admin. LambiamTalk 01:38, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I have not seen much of Tucson so just assume it must very hot there too. My profession lets me move and I am by nature a wanderer.--Dakota ~ 04:23, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I am a guitarist.--Dakota ~ 04:58, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Regarding Suzhou

Dear Kukini,

I am curious to know why you feel the addtion of I.M. Pei to the Suzhou's notable people section is a vandalism. It is a well known fact that Mr. I.M. Pei is born in Suzhou and he has visited the place many times, even draw some of inspiration from Suzhou garden into his work.

Looking forward to your response.

Richard Ji

Regarding Suzhou

Thanks for the prompt response. After doing a diff between my version and the version you restored. Also performed a diff between my version and the version before my change. I don't see any link that I deleted. I made an addtion as far as I can see. Can you elaborate on what link that I deleted? so I don't make the same mistake in the future?

Regards

Richard Ji

Regarding Suzhou

Kukini, I am new to Wikipedia so I apologize if I screw up anything, but I did a preview and made sure that I only added something, not delete anything. I went back to my version and see the following:

  1. Architect
   * I.M. Pei (貝聿銘)
  1. Others: Gu Yanwu (顾炎武), Zhang Taiyan (章太炎)

Which you said I deleted the line:

  1. Others: Gu Yanwu (顾炎武), Zhang Taiyan (章太炎)

But I can clearly see the line there. So I am really confused here.

Regards.
