Evaluation of the Ethan Allen Article
editI read and evaluated a Wikipedia Article on Ethan Allen, a founder of the state of Vermont and a hero of the revolutionary war. He read an incredible life and this article was very interesting as I learned a lot about him I did not know. The entire article was very relevant to his life, some of the facts may not have had great historical importance but would be relevant for anyone researching his life in general. It gives information from early on in his life to his death. It tells of his early defense of lands in the Vermont and New Hampshire areas from wrongful settlers, his revolutionary war exploits, his imprisonment and his return to and death in Vermont. The article has no information that may distract you, besides links to more information on historically important events. None of it appears heavily biased. One person in the talk seemed to think it was biased in one direction but none of the other editors seemed to agree or see what bias this user was referring too. I couldn't seem to see the bias this user was pointing out either. No one viewpoint seemed either over or underrepresented to me in this article. As most of the primary sources on Ethan Allen are in older books many of the sources aren't directly linked but the pdf files that are linked are definitely reliable sources from what I could tell. The review of the article said that the information was factually accurate and verifiable as well, so I am assuming that the links I didn't check are good sources as well. This article is very well cited with references and citations in every paragraph. None of the articles seemed biased in either way, though most of the information having to do with the revolutionary war was from American sources. The only thing that gave me any pause about this article was a few sentences that were speculative, with vocabulary like likely and believed. This is to be understandable though, as this all happened a long time ago and not everything can be verified about history. While I was looking at the history of the article it was clear that this article is regularly updated by a multitude of editors. The article does a great job of covering Allen's life, and I don't see many areas that could, or should, be added to. The talk page discussed a few date discrepancies of early life, a bias discussion and a GA review. The bias discussion saw one editor say it was biased, another asked what the bias was, and the first editor never replied.. The GA review reported the article well written, factually accurate and verifiable, covering all material, neutral, stable, and well illustrated when appropriate. It is rated as a good article and is a part of Wikiproject Biography/ History, WikiProject Military history, WikiProject Connecticut, WikiProject United States/ Vermont, and WikiProjects Christianity.
