Greyback edit

Hi, just wanted to say I've reverted your edit to Fenrir Greyback's blood purity. It's nothing personal at all - but as it's speculation, it isn't really a valid change. Thanks! Libatius 07:40, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Userboxes edit

I was about to reformat (not remove, trust me) your userboxes and userfy a userbox but I saw the message "Do not edit this page", so I guess you're going to have to do it yourself.

You do have an error in the formatting, so you know. — Nathan (talk) / 23:25, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:05 18 06 1902.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Macrauchenia edit

Hi Knowledgelord, Thank you for your nice comment on my prehistoric beasts. I can redo the Macrauchenia following your recommendations. However, keep in mind that there is always an element of subjectivity in each reconstruction. For instance, most artists have a tendancy to add an elongated trunk to Macrauchenia, but the length of it is actually totally unknown (it might even have not possessed a trunk at all). After all Macrauchenia belongs to a group of mammals (the litopterns) which is completely extinct so there is no living animal to compare to. I used the general shape of the skeleton (such as the one find at [1]) to do the drawings. I agree that I should have done the rear legs a little bit broader but the neck is about right I think. Image:DeadlineScreenshot.jpg listed for deletion edit

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:DeadlineScreenshot.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it, but use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. -- AuburnPilottalk 08:50, 3 December 2006 (UTC) 08:50, 3 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Plesiorycteropus edit

Hi, thanks for your message! There seems to be just bone fragments left of Plesiorycteropus so I haven't been able to find a full body recreation. There doesn't seem to be very much info. The wikipedia article on Plesiorycteropus needs some serious re-editing anyway. What I have found is a pdf e-book report by the American Museum of Natural History: Morphology, adaptations, and relationships of Plesiorycteropus : and a diagnosis of a new order of eutherian mammals. Bulletin of the AMNH ; no. 220 on the following link [2] There are some bone illustrations. Perhaps a skull image would be interesting...? My request was for a skeleton photograph perhaps from a museum. In the pdf report there seems to be a load of technical info on Plesiorycteropus which could be of interest. Anyway, I would like to know what do you think. Please, let me know... --Francisco Valverde 08:47, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

As per your query edit

I do not have anything against you and I'll thank you not to assume that I do. I'm just trying to keep articles as free from problems like original research, speculation, point-of-view statements and things that have already been written. For example, the dit I made that provoked your comment was "In the second film, Giselle...". The reason I took out the "In the second film" is because the preceding sentence was "She also appears in Will's hunt for Jack Sparrow in Dead Man's Chest". I am NOT doing anything personal against you so I would ask you please to assume good faith about my edits as I do about yours. Thank you. Dac 20:50, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Once again I feel the need to reinforce that I am just doing what the guidelines dictate, by avoiding trivial details and original research. As a personal rule, I don't remove anything that doesn't fall under those categories; some of your edits, interesting though they may be, fall under those headings. Some don't, and I leave those ones as is. I am NOT doing anything personal against you. Nor have I ever once said that my word is law. So please, do NOT assume I am doing anything personal against you, and assume good faith. I'm doing only what the guidelines state. Please don't sledge me for that. Regarding edits to List of minor characters in Pirates of the Caribbean edit

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, KnowledgeLord! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule \.photobucket\.com\/, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Shadowbot 03:45, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I posted this on my talk page as well, KnowledgeLord, but I see no proof there. You have a screenshot of the scene in question, yes. But are those the two same characters? Perhaps they are. If they turn out to be, I will offer a full apology and post it on the page's talkpage. But until then, any comments that they are undoubtably in the third film will be removed.
Think of it like this: it could be the two characters were not written into the script, but because they'd been popular, the director made them extras. Or, possibly, they could be characters but just completely new characters. There is no guarantee that they will undeniably be the same characters, and since Wikipedia is not a crystal ball and we have no way of affirming this matter, we can't put that in. Sorry. Kudos on going to the trouble, but we still have nothing concrete.
Also for future reference, the reason the link was deleted because it linked to photobucket, which the bots see as unreliable sources. There's a part of Wikipedia that allows picture uploading directly onto Wikipedia, use that in future. Dac 08:20, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, man, I've severed my ties with the Pirates pages. Left them, and I don't intend to come back. I removed some redundant sections on the Kraken page and my edits were reverted under the claim that I was the one vandalising. I lodged a complaint and stated my reasons for what I did, never heard back, so I've left them. Sorry.
By the way...yeah, they were in. Ten points on that. As promised, I offer my apologies. Personally I saw no reason for them to be in the film, but they were nonetheless. Kudos.  ;) Dac 04:38, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not to sound either manic or paranoid, but have you got anything against my artwork? I ask this because it was I who came up with the drawing of Macrauchenia originally, and I had read earlier today that you suggested it be speedily deleted. So what exactly can you tell me?

Nope, that wasn't me. I did not request any speedy deletion of your artwork. Where did you read that? ArthurWeasley 15:23, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I have an account on Wiki Commons and so do thousands of users. In the future, I would advise you to check the deletion log before sending unfounded accusations. ArthurWeasley 02:12, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ice Age edit

If, as you said, "it may be that next to no one will actually care about the science of the film," then it probably shouldn't be in the article. Also, the Ice Age movies are cartoons with anthropomorphic talking animals, so I doubt that anyone will be looking for scientific accuracy in them. Also, the lists of animals are original research anyway. —tregoweth (talk) 18:53, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

It would help if the source for the animal information was given, but I still think that a list of animals in the film is still a trivia list. —tregoweth (talk) 04:52, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
By "verification," I just meant listing the source of the information. —tregoweth (talk) 05:05, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Technically, if you don't have a source, it's still original research. Also, the Ice Age DVDs probably count as primary sources, which means they are only usable if cited by a secondary source. That is, if someone reputable writes a magazine article about the Ice Age movies, and cites the DVDs, then it's usable. —tregoweth (talk) 20:06, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
If no media articles are written about the science of the film, then, by Wikipedia standards, it's not a notable enough topic to be part of a Wikipedia article. (And, yes, I know that guideline is rarely followed, but still.) As for scientific accuracy: I could see such a section in, articles about, say, 2001, Jurassic Park, or An Inconvenient Truth. But Ice Age is a cartoon that doesn't have any particular science content. —tregoweth (talk) 00:14, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think you misunderstood me -- I meant that a section about scientific inaccuracies would be appropriate in the above movies because they are either science fiction (with an emphasis on science), or documentaries about science. In the Ice Age movies, it's not as relevant. And as for the lists of animals, you haven't really given a good reason why they should be in the article in the first place. —tregoweth (talk) 05:17, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Dab.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Dab.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:29, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

What do they want? All the info on characters is on these pages, why should we have to move anything but at the same time it might be an idea to just keep them happy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by EwanMclean2005 (talkcontribs) 14:46, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:K-and-Z.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:K-and-Z.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 22:50, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

24.20.47.60 edit

I wouldn't hesitate to block a vandal IP account, but is this user really engaged in vandalism? The edits from the past few days appear well-intentioned and non-disruptive. 24.20.47.60 (talk · contribs). I don't see anyone reverting his edits from today, for example. Would it be more productive to tell the user what he's doing wrong and how to improve? ·:· Will Beback ·:· 01:09, 28 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, I still think he's well-intentioned, just misguided. But at some point the difference is immaterial. I've blocked the account for another few months. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 04:33, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Hector Barbossa edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Hector Barbossa. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hector Barbossa. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:09, 31 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Film critics are not needed" edit

I know you're not actually going to check these links out, though they are interesting examinations of Ebert and filmmaking in general.

Nostalgia Critic's examination of the influence of Siskel and Ebert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7UhDVOxIjo

Nostalgia Critic's Farewell to Roger Ebert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYQsKWhfY88

Nostalgia Critic's Examination of the Role of Films in Society http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic/42405-when-is-a-movie-just-a-movie

Brad Jones's Review of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, a movie for which Roger Ebert wrote the screenplay. Also this is after numerous times where he lampooned Ebert's opinions on movies like Maniac, I Spit on Your Grave, and Last House on the Left. http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/bj/tcs/38903-the-cinema-snob-beyond-the-valley-of-the-dolls

And a quote from Buckley on Youtube, "Roger Ebert doesn't have to be a filmmaker to tell you a movie sucks for the same reason you don't have to be a five-star chef to tell me a meal is awful."

It's all opinion, and that was his. He has the right to have that opinion, whether you think it's wrong or not. I do think people should defend their opinions, to ensure an intelligent conversation, though they don't have to. And for what it's worth, most of the time he did.

Yes there were a few times where he overreacted and bullied (even though he had no effect on their practices) studios like with Friday the 13th (but he eventually mellowed out on that, pretty much anything after 1993 is pretty fair), or I Spit on Your Grave, or Silent Night, Deadly Night, but the majority of the time, he was nicer to films than many other critics, hell even me.

My least favorite movie of 2013, The Host, still got a 2.5/4 from him. Brad Jones's least favorite of 2012, Savages, got a 3.5/4 from him. Read some of the posts and comments on here for evidence of this http://www.rogerebert.com/memoriam.

or this http://www.rogerebert.com/tributes-to-roger/filmmakers-on-roger-ebert

He pushed for anime to be more sustainably watched in America and he pushed for more independent filmmakers like Steve James, Martin Scorsese, Hayao Miyazaki (for America he's independent), Quentin Tarantino, Spike Lee, David Gordon Green, Werner Herzog, not to mention many others that are widely available for research on your part.

So yes, he was important for anybody that grew up listening and reading his opinions, and to people who took them into account, and to any filmmaker that got a push from him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RobertMacGinty (talkcontribs) 18:04, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
