November 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages, as you did to The Manitowoc Company. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" is strongly discouraged. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:36, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Updates on Grove edit

Please look at the updates on the Grove page. The removal of promotional terms, and also of long lists of products that are meaningless to the general public, will help make these articles more encyclopedic and less spam-like. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:43, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

A few suggestions and Tips edit

I would suggest that this Grove mobile hydraulic cranes and the other articles that have been created from the Manitowoc article. And that the new material that is not copied from there would be better used to expand that article which is rather short anyway. (it has expand tags and rather brief sections any way). I can see that they were created from that article as the same faults appear in all of them, like the poorly used Infoboxes. Have a look at {{Infobox company}} for the usage info and full list of terms. The use of the {{External link}} tag (that I'd added today to the EL list) section on the Manitowoc article on the External link section with only 3 items (ones a duplicate link! why ? ).

Articles also need References or sources for WP:Verification of information.
Add ref tags like this<ref>With you reference add here</ref> and a section heading; -

  • ==References== with

{{Reflist}} below it. (This will then create the list of references with item numbers.)

Articles also need [[Category:A relevant category title here]] to be added at the bottom of the page.

See the Manitowoc lattice-boom crawler cranes article were I changed the inline external link to the company web site in the lead section into a reference, as an example (Inline external links are not good practice, thats why the External links section heading is used to group them) subject to them meeting WP:EL. (which is why the notice (tag) was added to the main articles list as most are not needed / suitable).

Hope this helps , as creating article from scratch is not as easy as it first appears and they are often nominated for deletion rather quickly, as you have found out. (my first attempt was also proposed for deletion). I was looking for a article on Manitowoc cranes and there models to save creating one for another project Here, if you have some more info on the firm and would like some help creating an article I assist you if I can. --BulldozerD11 (talk) 03:16, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Have to add that a major copy edit required as Grove mobile hydraulic cranes contains sections that are WP:Copyvio, that is they are a straight cut and paste from the web site. Please rewrite in your own words, as the use of complete sentences from company web sites is against wikipedia copyright policy, (unless it is released by the company). I've not added a copy vio tag as it will probably result in speedy deletion of the article. Please clean it up Asap. I've not really got time to re write it currently. Please visit the pages listed in the welcome to Wikipedia message above for editing and policy tips to help create great articles. Cheers, good work for creating articles on important companies that are not high profile in the usual pubic sense but are an important part of industrial heritage and engineering history wise.- BulldozerD11 (talk) 18:07, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re Colour scheme edit

The material was re added by Wikidan and my self as a reversion of your edits that removed chunks of material and references. You provided no edit summary to justify the removal so the edits looked like vandalism / poor edits that added little and took more away at first glance. On digging deeper I have found your new articles and Wiki dans call for deletion as adverts which i disagree with. Hence some tips for you above.

On the colour scheme feel free to correct it if wrong now but provide an edit summary (as per WP:Edit summary then people are less likly to revert if it says why it was done/why), or better amend the page to say the colour scheme has change and describe the new one, as most people will be familiar with the red one, and most photos show that one other than when operators custom scheme is applied.(provide a reference of say a press announcement that it has changed to back claim up WP:Verification) Good look in expanding the article and the off shoot ones (which really could have been incorporated in the main article as separate section) if they are not expanded more they may be proposed to merge into the main corporate article. The one that was deleted can bee recreated in the main article as a sub section instead. I'm building a grove one Here as some of wikipedias rules & polices do not apply on Wikia, it can contain material thats not allowed on WP like lists of models WP:Lists (Theres is a fault with a template embeded in the text on the page messing the display up).

Any problems/ advice I'll try to help. - BulldozerD11 (talk) 23:54, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merge of Manitowoc Cranes and Grove.... edit

Hi saw the note on the talk page so asked an admin to look at it to merge the articles for you.

Note: if you want to leave a message directly for me (assuming it was to me) if you place it on my tal page if im editing I will get a message quicker. as will only see it on the article page when i check recent changes on my WP:watchlist. If discussions are of a general nature relating to an articles content then they can be better on the articles page. (I had partially put some of the discussions on the article talk pages to demonstrate them and so the information is visible to other editors).

Looks better now starting to grow into a useful article. You will need to add some references to things like merger/take over dates etc (you can use the Manitowoc web site if its on there but an 3rd part is better like a notable newspaper article ) - BulldozerD11 (talk) 03:52, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re:Manitowoc Cranes edit

I restored the content to User:Kkoeppen/Manitowoc Cranes. When you feel the article is ready for the mainspace, you cane move the page to the correct title. (the link explains how to do this) Thingg 02:50, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
