Also, please note that I have moved your article on the Athens-to-Atlanta Road Skate to a new title, and trimmed the content somewhat. DS (talk) 14:31, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} Why did you trim my article so much? Kkeaton1101 (talk) 15:08, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, looking at the trimming, it would appear that the main trimming was to remove the America-centric views (e.g. "It’s known as America’s definition of an outdoor skating event") - on Wikipedia, we try to maintain a World-view. The bit about "Contestants in the A2A enter the race not just to win, but for the experience and for the chance to make new friends from all over the world." isn't really relevant to an encyclopedia, and sounds slightly promotional. If you feel that the "missing" bits should be in the article, I would suggest that you leave a message on the talk page about it, and see what other editors think. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:16, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reversions

edit

Really... stop. Puffery is okay in a press release. This is not a press release, it's an encyclopedia article.

Okay? DS (talk) 05:32, 8 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Phantomsteve and DS here that the content does seem promotional and should probably be removed so that it reads in a more neutral and encyclopedic nature. I ask that you take their advice, as well as the advice written on the articles talk page and trim the article accordingly. Also, please see WP:EDITWAR. Wait... I feel my article is just fine how I last edited it. The information I added was either quoted or pretty neutral in my opinion, and besides there are plenty of articles here on Wikipedia that have much more "puffery" than my article and yet they remain un-touched. Why is mine being singled out? (Kkeaton1101 (talk) 15:11, 8 December 2009 (UTC))Reply

Okay, let's deal with your points in no particular order. First, just in case you don't already understand this: it's not "your article". You can certainly take pride in it, you can take credit for it, you can care about how it turns out and what it says... but you don't control it. This is the case with all Wikipedia articles, and has always been.
Next, why is your article being "singled out"? Because there's over three million articles on Wikipedia and we can't fix them all at once. That I found yours was just a fluke, but now I'm paying attention to it.
(This isn't to say the article is at risk of being deleted, though. It's a perfectly valid subject.)
As for the other articles with puffery: well, what about them? We've got over three million articles and we can't fix them all at once. If you notice something that you think needs fixing, then you're welcome to fix it. Or you could tell someone. We won't know about it otherwise. (And by the way - you're now part of "we". Remember, everyone who edits Wikipedia is a volunteer.)
The content that we're disagreeing about: well, let's see. The A2A is known as "America's definition of an outdoor skating event"? According to who? .... According to the A2A Association. The A2A Association could say that they're more important than the Olympics and the Nobel Prize put together. But that's an opinion; worse, it's their own opinion about themselves. And what does "America's definition of an outdoor skating event" mean anyway? How does it differ from New Zealand's defintion of an outdoor skating event, or Jamaica's?
And what's this about "people don't enter just to win"? Says who? Says the A2A Association. I mean, sure, I'm sure it's a great experience and people DO make lots of new friends, but... prove it. Give me hard facts. Imagine this article as written by the military, or by a lawyer. People come from as far away as Germany and Italy and other countries? Good. Which other countries? Are they further away than Germany and Italy? Why not "as far away as (that other country)", then?
It "test(s) each contestant's courage, ability, and overall determination to finish"? First - says who? Oh, right - the A2A Association again. Second - how is that different from the New York Marathon, the Iditarod, or in fact any other race?
I apologize if this seems harsh. I hope you understand my point somewhat better now.DS (talk) 18:40, 8 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Atlanta Peachtree Road Rollers

edit

A tag has been placed on Atlanta Peachtree Road Rollers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 15:37, 8 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
