Thanks for uploading Image:Mountain crest.GIF. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

A new license text has been included. All my images have been created by me using random number generators and plot routines in MATLAB. Similar versions are available in some papers in my reference list.--Kjells 07:29, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

small thing in Genetic Algorithms

In the sentence "...through repetitive application of mutation, crossover, and selection operators..." I reverted your addition of the item "inversion". My sense is that this sentence is a broad characterization of basic defining activities of a GA, not an exhaustive list of techniques, so "inversion" should be a subtopic of the mutation topic. That said, I really appreciate the work you are doing on this very difficult page. There is a lot of pushing and pulling, e.g. biologists who think this is a topic of microbiology, historians who think that people who modelled population biology aren't getting enough credit for inventing a nonlinear optimization technique, and current graduate students trying to bump the citation counts of their papers on minutiae. It's really too exasperating for me, and I really hate to butt in only over what's essentially a point of grammar. So if you like it put it back in :-) Pete St.John 16:17, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Goldberg has simulatd a kind of mutation where evolution takes out a piece of a DNA-sequence, turns it in opposite direction and puts it back again. He calls it "inversion operator" (not used by biologists). This operator is very suitable for the travelling salesman problem. Unfortunately, I could not find this mutation described in the article evolution. But, o. k., I will put "inversion" back in genetic algorithm again.--Kjells 10:28, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

It may be that a single word "inversion" is not sufficient. Perhaps inversion should be introduced under the headline "recombination" with a short description.--Kjells 12:49, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
